there two main factors you should consider when deciding on the lenth of your hooklength (not hooklink)

find out the bottom you are fishing on if it is gravel then a shorter hooklenth would proberly be best but in weed then a longer one so your bait will land ligtly on top of the weed

hope this helps and you need to adapt to your situation

i tend to use a hooklink about 6 - 61/2 inche long i found perfect but if am having weird bites will go down inche or two because the fish might be getting away without being hooked.:D :D
