That`s kind of difficult to answer without more info,but if you`re on a new water,and are using more than 1 rod,why not try 1 of each and compare the results??

how long would you have the rigs i tried one about 20 inces long no good though

I`d start at about 10 on the long one and do 5 on the short and see how it goes,or you could try 2 rigs the same lenght and put one on a semi fixed lead and the other on a running lead and compare the results,I`m assuming you`re using 2 rods is that right,are the fish deffinately in your swim,is the water a new one,try talking to the other anglers,obviously don`t try and interogate them but just ask for a few hints etc.most will help some won`t but don`t ask don`t get.

i use 2 rodss my 20 inch was 17 inch snake skin 2o lb and 3 inch iq 25lb

My catch rate has massively improved since using short hooklinks along with heavy leads.

what size leads do u use i use 2.5 oz flat pear swivwl lead

Usually 4oz leads (shape dependant on what i'm fishing to/over)

and 3 - 4" coated hooklinks with the last 1/2" of coating removed for presentation.
