dayvid
found this Situated just outside Layer-de-la-Haye about 4 miles from Colchester, this is an excellent fishery, with a well deserved reputation for big fish. Carp in excess of 40 lbs, Bream to over 12 lbs and Pike over 25 lbs have all been landed. The lake holds an impressive number of Carp weighing over 20 lbs, but is also a good fishery for the pleasure angler, with fish of all other species present. Layer Pit has a restricted membership which requires any new applicant to...Read more do four work parties and pay a joining fee. Access is severely restricted for the less active angler. salokcinnodrog
Don't forget that to get to join Layer you have the CAPS rules: Layer Pit is subject to a special membership, only anglers with a valid Layer Pit permit are eligible to fish. To gain a Layer upgrade 4 working parties have to be attended all at waters other than Layer. When you have completed you 4 working parites you should send the tokens and your membership card, along with a cheque for £30 to the Membership Secretary. There is also the option to 'buy' the work party vouchers at a cost of £25 each. This membership is valid until the member fails to join the Society for one season and can only be obtained via the Membership Secretary. The Layer Pit area is out of bounds to Society members between 10:00pm and 05:30am, except for official working parties. No parking, waiting or queuing within the Parish Boundaries of Layer-de-la-Haye at any time. No entry to the car park before 05:30am. No access to the fishery before 06:00am. No motor vehicles to be parked on farm or concrete roadways near Layer Pit. They must be parked on the high ground car park inside the entrance gates. Society members wishing to be accompanied by a non-fishing companion must apply for a non-fishing permit. Only one permit will be issued per member per season and will extend over the period of the season. Junior members under 13 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult member or responsible adult non-fishing permit holder at all times. Visitors must abide by Society Rules. Anglers are not permitted to fish within restricted areas adjacent to overhead electricity cables and must be at least 30 metres away from any source of electricity. All roped-off areas are out of bounds. Marker floats may be used provided that they are reeled in after baiting etc. On no account are they to be 'left out' whilst fishing. Maximum of 2 rods permitted throughout the year. Lead weights must not exceed 4ozs. The following baits (and only those listed below) are allowed on Layer Pit. Boilies, Pellets, Sweet Corn, Luncheon Meat, Pepperoni, Bread/Cheese pastes Live/Dead Baits, Naturals (Maggots, Worms, Casters, Cockles etc). The use of Dog/Cat Biscuit, (Floaters) is limited to One Kilogram per member per day. Cereal Ground bait is limited to two Kilogram per member per day and only when feeder fishing. The loose feeding of Ground bait is BANNED. Draco

Ginger9991
Hi mate, Fished it a few times. You need to be a member of CAPS, Do 4 work parties or pay an extra £130. No 40's but plenty of 30's in there. Absolutly tons of fish in there, 10 - 18lb would be the average stamp i would say. Cast long for bites, cast short for bigger fish in my experience, they like bait and are not afraid of the spomb (had loads of runs whilst i have been spombing). The fish are always showing. Set up on them if u can. Draco
