Can anyone please tell me how to splice leadcore.

I have been told before a few years ago but it seems to have gone from my mind!

Also what knots are best to use to attach the leadcore leader to your mainline?

Please help!

Many thanks

Tight Lines

I want to use the chod rig, so im thinking trying to use the loop to loop would be tricky. As my hooklink would be threaded on the leadcore.

Is there any other knot i can use?

The questions im asking may sound basic but ive never used leadcore before and just want to make sure everything i do is safe. :D:D

its easy to loop-to-loop with a choddy mate. just pass the mainline loop (i use one about 2" long at the most) through your small leadcore loop, then bring the lead n hooklink through the mono and slide it all down nice n tight. should be sound

You could, if you so desired, when splicing, add a #8 swivel and shok bead to the leadcore before pulling it through, then, onto your mainline, tie, as has been mentioned, either a loop, or, add a rig ring. Then attach both lines with a quick change clip.

I would also add, that this is not the way everybody would do it, but personal preference.

a clip between the mainline and leadcore mate? :?:? bit dangerous aint it?

Not if the clip is covered with tubing, and the user is confident in their knot tying ability.

surely it'd stop any leads running on the leadcore, or a discharged lead clip, from sliding off the end of the leadcore though mate?

and Evans - i use Kryston Score leadcore

Not if you're using a safety clip.

If your using inline, then why would you want the lead to go over the leadcore?

if the line snaps then i'd want the lead to run off the end of the leadcore, not leave the fish trailing 6ft of leadcore with a 3oz lead trapped running up and down it

Thats why the hooklink should be of a lower BS than the mainline, imo.

Also, although I may not have explained myself thoroughly enough, the lead is always able to run free.

6ft of leadcore, is also 3ft longer than I would ever use.

The pic below is what I just knocked up to try and show what I meant in words.

Clearer than mud I hope :lol:

I always use the needle knot to attach leadcore to mainline as it produces a neat non bulky knot that'll allow any lead/hooklink depending on style fished,to pass over it.

What is the needle knot?

Is it true that some leadcore is easler to splice than others.

I've been looking at ESP leadcore and am going to get some this weekend. What leadcore do you use and rate?
