Let us know how you get on, I'm going next Friday so it would be good to hear some positive reports before i go so good luck mate. I came back yesterday, The lake is beautiful but I'm sorry to say that i only had one carp that was 5lb, me dad had a 3lber and all the other guys around the lake had the odd one. There was three guys a couple of pegs down from me and didn't have anything all weekend. The biggest carp that came out was 12lb and that was on sinking bread up the corner right by where you first walk onto the lake. But is was that hot the fish were just basking, i could see all of them but they just weren't feeding, i think only 3-4 fish came to surface baits. There was a match on the canal behind us and they were having a worse fishing day than us on the lake, some of the guys didn't even have 1 fish. But saying all that I'm glad to say that I'm going back once it starts to cool down a bit. Not so sure on the lake being beautiful mate!! But then again i know what you must of gone through as the carp in there seem to always cruise around even if the weather isn't hot. Like i said in another post on here it has become a really difficult fishery, and i think john should make it in to a syndicate water and stuff it with plenty of carp and get rid of the silver fish, the reason i say this is he wants it to be one of the premiere carp waters in the north west so to do that he is going to have to reduce the number who can night fish at any one time and police it better he has plenty of other waters to let pleasure and match anglers fish so up the carp lads and lasses. Rant over. Well its quite nice when you look at it from your eg but all the crap and mud banks behind you aint very nice. I reckon he should just have it as a carp only lake, he'll ge plenty of us there week in week out, And like you said just have a certain(say 8 ) anglers at any one time fishing it. The guy and his wife were down walking the lake i'd say once every 2 hours over the weekend looking for trouble makers and people that have just arrived. His wife turfed 3 lads away while i was there for been too rude and abusive to her. I heard but dont know how true it is or whether it is another fishermens tail, but the farmer has supposed to of netted the lke and sold some of the lake records. But dont qoute me on that its what i've heard on the bank.
martinlewis
That wouldn't surprise me in the least, he's happy taking your money but not so keen letting you know what an how many carp are in there, when you think say 10 yrs ago it was a totally different water in which you would catch 9 out of 10 times. paulo007
Thanks for your advice lads, it looks to me like this is a dieing water, John needs to do something to spice things up. Sooner or later people are not going to bother. I am going to give it another go in a month or so. Keep me posted and i will do the same. martinlewis
Talk about spice things up last time people complained about the lack of action he only went and put Trout in say that it would keep pressure down in winter months helping the carp. It did not many people went back, so lets hope he does the right thing this time.

It did not many people went back, so lets hope he does the right thing this time. Well what I'm trying to say is John the owner had the problem once before where he had upset anglers because there wasn't much happening, then he came up with a brain wave of putting trout in and he closed it to carp anglers for a while, this was through the winters months. People who fish the water a lot had said they wouldn't come back, i remember when he said he was going to put in 200 carp going all the way up to 20lb, then myself and i few others weren't so sure this would happen so we went else where. Then as you can see now he has sold all his livestock and dug out new waters plus making other waters deeper, but as for stocking he doesn't give much away he never has done, my fear is he has put fish from his main carp lake into the others i may be wrong and i will be the first to hold my arms up if that's the case. That's why with the amount of people who fish it i fell he should make it into a syndicate, i hope this clears it up for you. I shouldn't complain because I've had fish up to 20lb out but not everyone has been so lucky, but for the price he charges there should be more to go at. Rant over
1gmann
Alright lads, i went on friday arrived at lunch time and stayed until saturday lunch time. friday was really nice and sunny when we got there but then it started to rain at about 6pm and didn't really stop then until morning. i had a bream, a small grass carp and i slightly bigger mirror that was probably reaching the 9/10lb mark. I also missed a couple in the night due to not being able to get out of my sleeping bag quick enough. My mate also had a chub and a barbel. All in all it wasn't an amazing day/night but we didn't blank and we didn't get too wet and it beat the hell out of being in work.

1gmann
I wouldn't have a clue about when he put them in. It wasn't very big, it was probably only about 5lb max but that's just a guess. Looked like it had been caught a few times though because it's mouth was a bit misshapen and scarred.
martinlewis
Sure it wasn't one of the big Chub he has in there??
1gmann
suppose it could've been? just took it to be a grass carp at the time with it being so green and having a funny small mouth. it was a fish either way.

greengrassandy
Went to this place last year and ive never seen a fishery so busy, didnt like it and probably wont go again. Maybe i should try it but heard far too many storys about this place. Ive joined a cracking fishery this year for £30 and its all i will be fishing all season, i should have done this years ago instead of wasting money on so called big fish lakes, if i had lots of keen anglers turning up on my door step everyday, damn right im gonna tell porkies to keep them coming back for more.....just think about this. greengrassandy
What is this water for £30?? Its a place called Rainwater in carrbrook, its a club that only allows 60 members, its also very secure now. They have recently stocked it up more and some should be pushing maybe 30lb....26lb was recorded in the last couple of seasons and just a couple of weeks ago a 23lb mirror came out....best £30 ive spent anyway. 1gmann
Not caught much on there at all this year but then again i've only been about 4 times. My rods are firmly tucked away for the winter now, it's pretty grim out there
paulo007
I havnt heard of anything being caught on there of late, The balif wants it to be one of the best waters in the north, but he is doing nothing to improve it. Its dying a death that place. keep me updated mate
wottowarwick
Iwas just looking at this thread,i have fished this water on and off for about 4 years. When i first started going it was a good runs water me and my mate were catching carp all the time, between 3lb and the biggest i had was a 21lb 5oz common a very nice fish indeed (THAT IS STILL MY P.B COMMON) The last few times we have been there though we have got the impression that there is not as many fish in there now, john the owner has dug quite afew different pools since we first started going there. And to be totally honest i think he has moved stock around (I HOPE IM WRONG THOUGH AS I ENJOY FISHING HERE) Biggest carp ive seen come out was 24lb but i have information that the same guy caught a 28lber when we left his name was stuart from stockport. If you stuart get to read this post please p.m me as it would be nice to meet up on the bank with you sometime in the near future mate. You know who we are chris and craig from stoke. Just incase anyone is intrested a photo of the common i caught is on the wall in the cabin in the field there is also a photo of my mate with a 17lber. Wotto.
