I have just come back from 3 weeks work experience at Vallee Lakes. Unfortunately while I was out there some bad press had been circulating about the lakes. The fish were spawning the first and second week I was there so the fishing was slow. The fishing was made harder with a complete change in weather than experienced in previous weeks which again is completely out of human control however this week now has seen an improvement in the weather which has brought the fish on to feed. There has also been comments on the weed and people saying that the lakes are un-fishable, this is not true. Like any gravel pit there is weed and the growth is heightened by the clarity of the water. Due to this the owners and bailiffs have relaxed the rules on the use of the boat and anglers are now allowed to use it to find clear spots and bait up. Most anglers who fish waters like this in England understand this and adapt their fishing unlike some. These lakes are not runs waters and are not advertised as runs waters but if you get the fishing right (like anywhere) you can have the trip of a lifetime. I also forgot to add that at this hard time of fishing many decent fish were still out on the bank including 78lb cat and 60lb mirror along with 40's and 30's on lake 1 with lake 2 seing some good 20's and 30's with a 78lb sturgeon coming out twice in two weeks. I must also add that I myself went out in the boat on lake two and found many clears spots in each swim along with big patches of silk weed that a bait can be easily fished on top of.
