andytuppen Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Hi, I have looked at the search box etc and can find bits of what i want but not precisley what i want. I am going to tie a simple knotless knot using coated braid then a bit of shrink tubing over the eye. My first question is: Do I un coat the braid to do the whole knotless knot, hair and about an inch up the mainline, then put my shirink tubing over it? and my 2nd question is, how much skrink tubing do you use? Is it from the eye of the hook to where the hook starts to bend and then the same distance from the eye of the hook up the main line? and my 3rd question is When i steam the shrink tubing do i just pull it at baisically a 45 degree angle? and my 4th question is, how long would you say to have the average hair for 1 18mm boilie? Obviously I will change the length as and when but for now what would you have the length as not knowing what lake im fishing next... Please answer all questions if poss as its my first time Ive made my own and would like to get it right 1st time! Thanks alot!!! p.s- sorry for the long post i just really want to get this right! bowza Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 I would throw in there is no right and wrong with rig tying , lots of people will do it slighly different to try and change from the norm, to add that little bit of change to what the fish are used to, as long as the basics are close most will satisfy your needs i May aim to tie three rigs the same but all will differ, weather it is length of hair, length of overall hook link, or with ot without tubing , blowback ring have fun and try out something new, you may find the next super rig for your water that everyone else wants Bowza Quote
sultandrops Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 to get my hair to the lenght i want i always put the bait on first before i tie my knotless knot, i'll strip about 4-5 inchs of coating. for the lake im fishing i have a fairly long hair of about 3/4 inch. i dont use shrink tubing all the time as i use a kurv shank hook like the gardner muggas which i dont think needs it for most rigs. if i do use it then when i put it on i cover most of the knotless knot with it for a little protection, and have maybe 1cm or something coming off the hook. when steaming it at an angle do it the same angle that the eye of the hook is. thats how i do it anyway dan Quote
andytuppen Posted May 6, 2011 Author Report Posted May 6, 2011 Thanks guys! So do i take the coating off to do the whole knotless knot and hair? thanks Quote
sultandrops Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 if you take about 4-5 inchs off then by the time you done the hair and the knotless knot you'll have about an inch or less of uncoated braid on the hooklink which helps the hook and bait move a little more natural. but you can leave the coating on and have a stiff rig, the choices are endless and yours to make dan Quote
