christoph22 Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 I'm visiting Lac de Charlou next month and as this is my first trip abroad, was wondering how stronger line should I get; 15lb or 18lb?? I've decided to go with GR60 line as I've used it before and I'm confident with it. I asked the bailiff there and he said 15lb if the diameter on it is average but if its thin diameter then go with the 18lb... trouble is I'm not sure what a thin or average diameter is as I've never really taken much notice before. However I thought I'd best get this right if I want my first trip to France to be a memorable one.... Any thoughts would be great thanks Quote
icemaster Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 The Average diameter for 15lb line is around the 0.35, I've fished France for the past 4 years using either Fox camo (which I'd never use again) which is around 0.38 and then for the pass few year Adrealine which I think is about 0.33. I've never been snapped off. What you need to take into account is the lake, what is the lake bed like, gravel etc, snags, weed beds etc, when you've got that info then you can make a more informed decision. Plus are you needing to cast a fair distance, if so you should be looking for a lower diameter line to help with this The diameter is more important than the BS, as line is over rated, there is a Tackle box review on here somewhere which will give you the true BS of the majority of line.
