  1. Not sure it would work for a 'D' rig as you've already doubled up the line to tie the knot so having room for a third through the eye seems unlikely and it'll sit wrong with the knot below the shank.

Have a look at the snell knot, does'nt use the eye like a knotless and it'll put the 'D' where you need it

I like the knot but I am obviously being thick here because I still don't understand how to put the D in?

  2. I've had a look around and it seems that the palomar knot is a popular choice for fluorocarbon. If I use this knot to attach my hook how do you attach a ring for the bait or in my case a bore ring to the hook? Also what are peoples favourite loop knot for flouro as well?

  3. The lake I am fishing has some choddy areas, silt in others and lillies and other potential snaggy bits. Popups are the most successful. Chod/silt rigs seem to be the favourite pop up rig but probably not the safest for this suituation with all the potential snags. Since my original posts I have been practicing tying chod rigs and I am happy that I can tie one where in the event of a breakage the hooklinkand lead can be ejected under light pressure. Even with this in mind it is probably still not the best rig to use for this venue so what's your favourite popup rig other than the chod that is suitable in snaggy waters?

  4. Excuse my ignorance gents but I haven't used a shod rig before or seen one in the flesh. Is it the lead tat basically stops the hook link sliding off the line when you are playing a fish? If so, how can you make the rig safe? Surely if you use a really low breaking strain line it will just break off when you are playing a nice fish? I am clearly missing something here

Part of your comment is one reason I don't like Helicopter set-ups, especially with a "naked" line section of light breaking strain mainline. You should be using a line strength of at least 15lb to my mind.

Have a read of these, some good pics and ideas here:

Thanks for your patience. That last thread had a brilliant picture in it and would be my preferred set up. The only thing is, if the beads can release then how do you prevent them sliding down the line on the cast or when playing a fish? This is probably obvious but not to me  I currently use Daiwa sensor brown 15lb. I don't want to use a leader so should I go for a higher breaking strain line? The new lake I am fishing has some nice twenties and probably thirties too by now. What size beads should I use and which of the two sizes of sinker?

  6. This might sound like a stupid question to a lot of you but I have to ask to make sure I do things right. I have always fished venues that allow barbless hooks only but i would like try a new venue but they only allow barbed hooks. I have seen all the arguments with regard to barbed hooks vs barbless and so I understand why the fishery in question have imposed this rule. A lot of people seem to agree that barbed hooks cause less damage to the mouth but ONLY when people know what they are doing when they remove the hook. So here is my dilema, I have never had to remove a barbed hook before and yet it is clear that I will be if I fish this new venue so can anyone give me any tips? Maybe I will find it natural and easy but the last thing I want to do is hurt the fish. There must be techniques that peopl use to allow them to be removed easily? All comments welcome.
