Thumbs up to you carpling for asking the question, u were obviousley unsure yourself! at least you have a better idea now! The thing i do when unsure about rigs or setups is check google images or watch a vid on utube. you can get more info on stuff like this from pics than people trying to explain it!

How long would you reccomend leaving a rod out with a 5ft zig before reducing it??? common sense would say it varys if you no there are fish in the swim??? but in general?
