Hey what about the multi rig?

Went stalking today and had endless carp pick the hook bait up and blow it back out again. i could of done someting about it, but they were feeding confidently and not spooking to much, no idea why though. nailed about 8 in the end nothing that big but a fun day out. didn't really plan on stalking but when the opurtunity comes along you have to take it. i was about a foot from the bank in 8 inches of water lol. the best rig i like the look of is the multi rig, but with shrink tubing on the shank of the hook. looks like it will nail them everytime!

I think that the Blood knot was failing as low as 45% of the Mainline strength. So using an 8lb line, it will break as low as 3.5lbs. It is because as you have said, it strangulates itself and cuts through the line used to form the knot. If you rub 2 pieces of mono together while both are kept tight, 1 piece of line can cut the other, this is basically happening with a Blood knot when it is under pressure. Fine if you are catching smaller Carp where the fish are small and at most 50% of the mainline BS, but with a Big Fish, I would never trust a Blood knot. If you ever get occasional crack-offs, or snap-ups that curly piece of line at the end is usually where the knot has gone. seams odd! i havent had a big carp on it the biggest being 19lb, although been stuck in a tree a few times and its took some snapping. im using berkley big game in 15lb and its like tow rope, but i love my snag fishing and i need that brute force. if you guys seriously reccomend a change i will, although i personally cant see the difference between a half blood knot and a grinner. both look very similar.

Nice one Do you still use it? i'm fishing a little snaggy end with loads of leaf litter on the bottom, so thought of using a pop up and a mate recommends this. he say's it can be used on the bottom and on fluorocarbon is he correct? i have tied a few up on different style hooks and different size loops, to see which one works best. im off to a runs water soon so will be able to see which one works best. put it this way use a hair rig, size 10 hook and a 10mm bait, you dont even have time to put the indicator on. lol

ah right my bad, i didn't follow the link. i have seen it before, but only now considered using it. can it be used with any lead set up?

Whats the second rig ring for? you have one on the loop which you tie to the pop up and one on the shank under the loop that seams to do nothing

I'm getting better at it, i'm trying to use 3 rigs for different situations. So far i have caught on 2 which are a basic boilie rig which is very simple. it can be used for bottom and pop up. the other one is a critically balanced rig, for this i have used a agressive hair(kd rig i suppose) so far i have used a size 6 hook which has enough weight to balance a single piece of fake corn. now looking into a 3rd rig, this is so i dont get confused with rigs and can concentrate on catching them.

Some interesting comments from both of you! i will get cracking and see what comes of it. I'm not reall that good at making rig's at the moment. So doubt it will turn out as good as yours Tony Dale

Cheers guy's. anyone had much luck in using just the multi-strand as a hooklink? whats the reason behind the majority of you prefer to use a knot?

Just noticed i have some snakeskin coated braid. when i bought it i was suffering from tangles and all sorts. anyway as i have improved my fishing i am tempted to use it again. i was thinking of a combi rig, but just the multi-strand for the hook end and fluoro carbon as a stiff boom. whats the best way of setting a combi up, a knot or a teflon rig ring? the multi strand has always facinated me, but im scared to use it. also is it the multi-strand or supersilk that can take the colour of the lake bed? thanks in advance

I would use them if i could no idea of how to set one up really. also how on earth do you cast out a 6ft hooklink?

This stuff doesn't dissolve in water. i wouldn't let superglue anywhere near my end tackle. just put a drop of superglue on top of water! it still smells once dried and its full of toxins. thats why i like kryston, their products are non-toxic. that bondage stuff sounds about right, maybe they have just changed the packaging!?

I'm after a kryston product that stiffens the hooklink, now its not the superstiff stuff. it came in a white tube like tothpaste with kryston written in green up the side. i believe its mainly used to stiffen the last bit of the hooklink behind the shot when using pop ups. i can't remember what its called though and if its still available to buy. any info is appreciated. ta

im going for 5 days from april the 6th. as you can imagine my carp addiction level is threw the roof, as i have to go through another week of work. its not to bad though, i always spend a bit of time down the lake, before a long session. just watching the water etc.... im hoping there will be, not many people down there, so i can practice casting and anti-tangle methods. away from my swim i will post a little report of how i get on in the catch report section. with a few pics hopefully thanks for the help guys, some nice ideas for me to try out.

Yes mate. My lake is a clay bottomed estate lake so that is the rig that I use virtually all the time. The only thing that I sometimes change if I'm fishing into the real soft areas is to extend the link between run ring and lead with about 6-12" of lead core (see I do use it). By splicing it to the lead and then a swivel or loop on the other end you can still hook it onto the run ring and its length will keep the ring above the silt/weed. My own choices of fluoro are 1. main line = Big-carp fluoro 2. hook links = ESP soft ghost When I am using fluoro tied to a "D" I always use ESP "Stiff Riggers" because the eye is designed for mono type hook links and sets the hook at just the right angle. With a combi rig I use ESP curved shanx with a supple hair. As Nick said they are just my own personal choices based on experience and confidence. Hope that helps. No, I didn't misunderstand you Read it carefully The actual choice of rig, hook and hooklink etc is down to you, but Keith has just given what works for him. It may depend on how the fish on YOUR local lake behave, so you will have to get some time down there watching them, and seeing how they feed, where they feed etc , then base your decisions on that. What works for one person does not work for others. I absolutely love Daiwa Sensor line, others hate it. You mis-understood me, i mean purely on the cast. i have so many more questions what knots are the best for a fluro hooklink? also can i use a hair rig style, instead of the d rig style?

i am using coated braid, as a hooklink. they were around the 5 inch mark. is there a pic of your actual set up? also will the kryston superstiff give braid the stiffness quality of fluoro? no not a big fan of food parcels. the sand is a brilliant idea oh one more, does the mainline have any influence on tangles? thanks

Hi Sam, I use running rigs with light leads all the time now and I have messed around with all sorts of beads etc and the best that I can find at the moment are the ESP "helicopter buffer bead." They are a longish bead which fits right over the swivel and i then use a quick link for attaching my hook link with a long tapered boom which covers the quick link and fits inside the opening of the buffer bead. All knots and swivel etc are then covered and keeps it nicely tangle resistant. Hope that helps mate. Keith Hey keith, i have been using running rigs since i started fishing in august. i couldnt use straight through mainline because i was getting tangles on every cast. as soon as i switched to tubing tangles were a thing of the past. how do you do it? lol
