  1. There has been a lot of talk lately about a world record catch for one fish (88 lbs 6 oz), but how about the world record for most combined weight for a tournament possibly being broken in the States last week at the 2007 American Carp Society Northeast Regionals? As a whole, over 13 tons of carp @ 10+ lbs were caught by all teams during the 50 hour tournament. That does not include all those under 10 lbs. and the catfish and bass that were also caught. Plus, there were only 35 teams. The results were truly incredible. The winning team, a pair from France, took home $5,000 USD after bringing in 225 carp at a combined weight of over 3,000 lbs!!! I helped as a weigh marshal at the event and one team told me they placed 2nd at a tournament in Oklahoma with only 3 carp for a combined weight of 52 lbs... they told me this as I was weighing 5 fish for them at a combined weight of over 60 lbs. Quite a contrast! Every single angler was amazed at what they experienced at the ACS NE Regional. Most were physically drained afterward, having worn themselves out from the constant action. Some are touting Baldwinsville, NY as the Mecca for carp angling. I encourage all to come out and compete in next year's tournament which is to be held May 14-17, 2008, again in Baldwinsville, NY. Check out www.americancarpsociety.com for more info. If you'd like to take a trip to Baldwinsville to test the waters for yourself, I suggest staying at The Red Mill Inn. They have private fishing access reserved exclusively for hotel guests and it is free. Plus, you can hook up with local fishing guide/expert Mike McGrath who can even rent equipment to you should you wish to travel light. Mike can be reached at mmcgrath2@twcny.rr.com. Feel free to contact me at publisher@rsmercury.com with any questions. I am a NY native. Cheers! -Jason
  2. twice118, If taking a trip to the States is an option, I would suggest visiting Baldwinsville, NY. It is the site of the 2007 ACS NE Regionals, where over 13 ton of carps were caught by 35 teams over the course of a 50 hour tournament! You can fly in to Syracuse and it is about a 20 minute drive from there. In Baldwinsville, you can stay at The Red Mill Inn where they have private bank space available exclusively for carp anglers staying at the Inn. It is situated adjacent to a damn where hundreds of carp feed and spawn. I guarantee you will catch 30+ fish each day. There is also a tour guide in Syracuse named Mike McGrath who is a talented angler and has handled this sort of trip for several other guests. He can even supply you with equipment rental if you wish not to travel with your gear. Mike can be reached at mmcgrath2@twcny.rr.com. Baldwinsville is a quaint town and there are lots to do in neighboring Syracuse for your traveling companions. In fact, there is a wealth of gems to explore in upstate NY within an hour or two if you have a rental car. All of the anglers at the ACS NE Regionals were flabbergasted by their experience fishing Seneca River. Many had never caught so many carp in their lives. I began hearing rumors that Baldwinsville is being hailed by some as the new Mecca of the carp angling world. I highly suggest you check it out. I am a NY native and would be happy to answer any questions you or anyone else may have. I can be reached at publisher@rsmercury.com. Cheers! Jason
