Very true... Even mono isn't really safe if it breaks a fair way from the swivel. In all fairness, a helicopter style rig is the safest. As the fish is left with only the hooklink.

Never used leadcore, and wouldn't know where to start to make it safe to use. i.e. in event of a snap.

When using a coating braid, i find that when i am first getting ready to tie the rig, i strip of about 5-5 1/2 inches. This allows after i have tied the loop for the hair and wrapped around the shank of the hook, i am left ~1inch of exposed braid between the end of the shrink tubing over the eye of the hook and the stiff section of the braid.

Only recently moved to coated braid. I cant really comment on how it is performing atm but it saves making combi rigs with stiff mono!

Simple to use. Float stop on mainline first. Thead mainline through middle of missile. Tie swivel on end. Tie hooklink on other side of swivel. Job done. Used by Matt Hayes himself!

Could be just a dodgy batch of hooks? I'm pretty sure boiling water wouldn't soften up the hook. And even if it did, i doubt after it has cooled down it would be less effective.

I've just come back from the tackle shop and bought some of the latest Mantis Dark (For fishing over silt). I will see how well it performs on saturday when i hook a 30'

Fox make a crimpers for no-knots. But i don't know about their effectivness.

Tbh mate, i have been loosing a few fish recently, runs / pickups and only connecting to the fish for a couple of seconds. I'm still in the development stage of my rigs, so i will change the hair length etc. I'm still annoyed about loosing a fish on saturday tho. It was completely my faul

well said m8, the only thing keeping me there is the fact that it is a dayticket water and there is a chance of catching a fishing up to 30lb, and it is also close to me as i live in ardleigh!!! shame really!! Well, I've just got home from a 30 hrs session at Weeley & guess what... I blanked NEVER AGAIN - No matter how desperate I am to fish! The bloke in the next swim to me was a 'hit 'n' hope' type bloke, casting all over the show but he had an 18lb Common, a 24lb Mirror & a 15lb Catfish... we were using the same bait; Mainline Pulse freezer range tipped with a small pineapple pop up. I've had it upto the back teeth of that muddy puddle. No features apart from the margins which are only there by default, pesky diving ducks that steal your freebies & give you hundreds of false takes, a portaloo that I wouldn't go in cause I could smell it 200 yards away, rubbish & dog ends everywhere & on top of all that, with bait, food, petrol & dayticket fees it's another £30 wasted. After 17 hours of 'nothing', with the door open I laid on my bedchair & within 30 minutes had a run... I lept off the bed to find yet another damn duck (no reference to you bombayduck ). It was now 1am & after rebaiting, I made a coffee but before I could drink it yet another run came my way, oh, no it wasn't, it was another duck! Despite showing them how close I could get a spod (bit naughty but no harm was done) they persisted all night so up until now, 30 minutes on the bed was my limit last night but not 1 single fish to show for my efforts NO MORE!!! Identification cards should be implemented and a full record should contain who was fishing, when and where.

Band from fishing is going to be a bit of a toughy...Lets face it, you dont get band from walking down the streets if you drop a maccy d's wrapper (Not that i do it). It really annoys me when i see bottles floating in the lake. I found half a butt section of a rod yesterday in the lake that someone had thrown in, with a bin 20 yards away Syndicates / members lakes are probably the only way you could stop it.

Sounds like he is using a helicopter rig, an inline lead with a swivel on the end to tie a pva bag onto.

On the topic of steaming with a kettle, the kryston silkworm seems to "come apart" when i do steam? Takes me a few attempts to get it right. Any suggestions?

I used these hooks on a simple hair-rig with a shrink tubing line alinger. I used them for one session, then put everything back into the rod holdall. When i came to clean my rods and reels a couple of days later, i noticed that where the tubing was over the hook eye and the knotless knot part. It had turned orange / brown in colour. After closer inspection, i noticed that it was rusted! I have put hooks and everything back like this before with no problems. Anyone else had this issue before? From now on i will be using quick release swivles and remove each rig after a session to let more air get to it.
