One more thing, what is the best thing to use as a hair stop. i've been using pine needles and short peices of grass all found beside the bank so everything is as natural as possible. Only thing is the best stop i've used so far is pine needles but they have been wet for too long and become too soft, they are bending in two and going straight through the luncheon meat I'm using. Ideas?

So it has no impact on keeping the bait on as long as the bait is pushed down to the end up against the bait stop. That right?

On a hair rig how big should the loop be?

Well after six hours in the freezing cold I got a few shy bites (no doubt from Gudgeon or Roach), no runs or firm takes and pulled out two Gudgeon. Switched to sweetcorn and got nothing. Depressing.
