  1. A few of us are going back to Morocco and Bin El Ouidane where we were beaten up last year, apart from "Pasty Dan" that is, who at least managed a 29lber. We will fish from Saturday 15th May for two weeks and there are spaces avilable for 10 anglers for either a week or two. 5 places are left for each week. No Noddys cos there is enough of us going already!!! We are driving from Spain and will leave Tortosa on the River Ebro very early on the morning of the 13th, have breakfast in Mojacar, Almeria, be joined by me then drive to Tarifa and stay the night in a 4 star hotel. Ferry leaves Friday morning for Tangiers and we expect to be at the lake by 6pm and "Hotel Bin El Ouidane" where we can spend the first night. (Friday) Or get straight out there fishing being its still light. That is if there are no other anglers still there on their last night from the previous week. There is a choice of "Drive and survive" where you bring all your own gear and get fed while on the bank breakfast and dinner, and includes your fishing license. Price €350 a week. Drive and be supplied with most of your gear (Bring reels, scales, buzzers and sleeping bag and end tackle) for €550 a week. 25 kilo of bait is supplied to start off with for these prices, boats with sonars are shared between two anglers. Hotel charge at the lake, if we share is €50 a night per room (Some rooms have 2 or 3 beds) inc evening meal and breakfast and most will stay the last night too I expect. (2 nights in the hotel optional) Fish for one or two weeks and leave on the Saturday morning and either stay the night in a Tangiers hotel or get the ferry pm and stay in a hotel in Spain. Sunday morning, head back North. P.M. me if interested, John. or email beachcomber???john@gmail.com (Take out the 3 x ???)
  2. Hi Dizzy, email Craig as he wil be able to advise you, best wishes,John (Almeria) info@extremafishingspain.com P.S. You are welcome to say I suggested him for info..........John.
  3. Depends where you are fishing but the river will have a lot more water in it (Above Mequi) and so there wont be much flow and there is normally no weed anyway. I suspect you are fishing below the Segre and Ive not managed to pin down when the weed does or doesnt come down, its very patchy,John.
  4. Fayon is less pressured to the point I left tackle etc (Openly) hidden near my swim from September 2005 to May 2006 and nobody went near. You can tell when someone has fished your swim and nobody did during that time. Problem is the snags.(Whole flooded towns) No matter how good an angler you are I think the amount of good fish lost is not worth it.There are too many Cats and Carp with my rigs attached to them. John. P.S. Back to a previous question, groundbaiting with baits such as Maize and other particles will delay the arrival of the Cats but it is the activity from Carp feeding which will also bring in the Moggies.......
  5. I've fished the Ebro for two weeks during July and another two in August and yes its tough but the fishing is good so you have to make your choice,John.
  6. Ill be surprised if you dont beat your PB although you have not picked the best time of year to visit the area, best of luck,John. P.S.Try the Frolic!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Yes Marcus the Ebro is different.Bring your rule book and throw it in the nearest bin. Heavily baiting will work but you will have to graft your way through the cats, the more bait you put in the more you will catch. This I do agree will bring in some big carp too but working your way through the Cats will be hard. A way out for you may be to bait heavily and get what Carp you cAN OUT OF A SWIM AND WHEN THE CATS MOVE IN AFTER TWO DAYS, MOVE AND DO THE SAME AGAIN.THis has worked for me when Carp fishing with Cat anglers. Bloody caps, sorry,John.
  8. Yes,sorry Penner and Marcus,I meant to mention Steve as well. Although I have yet to fish with him, some of my friends do regularly and say he is a great angler and guide,John.
  9. Hello again Marcus. If you dont mind quite a few Cats then prebaiting is fine but my best "Carp only" sessions have come without any.Other good sessions have come from being 100 or so yards downstream of Cat anglers. Dont get me wrong big Carp run with big Cats and the 30 and 40lb plus's get caught regularly by Cat anglers. On 100lb line and 7lb TC rods of course but the fish still got caught. You will of course have to put up with catching a lot of fish you are not angling for. Decisions eh? It sounds to me you wouldnt be happy with the fully inclusive guiding companys but im sure even they will cater for you.Companys such as Catfish Capers and individual guides like Big Ron and Jason Latham. My experience of the former two come from recommendations from friends, people I have met on the Ebro and comments on Web Forums. Jason who is based in Mequienza I have a little more personal experience of though Ive never been guided as such.He I think would suit you if you want the biggest Carp as Mequi is where most live. You will have to put with possibly some horrendous snags and flowing weed. Mike Ward who has become a friend over the last 18 months sounds, under the circumstances of your comments your answer. He and his wife Gill will feed and water you well 24 hours a day, give you a clean bed and good company.Mike will if you wish put you on the fish and leave you to it for the session although if you are alone, what will you do when you hook a 150lb Cat in the tail,I often glove out my own cats but that senario would be nigh on impossible, a cut the line job I think. Have a chat to Mike on 0034 976634250 Best wishes,John Beachcomber.(AKA Beachcomber John)
  10. Hi Marcus. You dont say what species you are after but I'm guessing Catfish as you want a prebaited swim. Maybe you could confirm as it matters when suggesting a company or individual to help you,all the best, John.
  11. As far as I know there is no legal night fishing in Andalucia BUT Im sure there are places you can get away with it.Ive sent this thread to a mate of mine that lives close to you (I'm 4 hours drive east of you) and hopefully he will get in touch, best wishes,John.
  12. Well done lads, glad to hear the Carp are still feeding.Ive had lots of reports that the Cats are and was hoping that would be good news for the Carp. I'm going on the 19th March and will stay 10 days or longer if the fishing and weather stays good.Im a bit worried about snow melting and putting a lot of cold water through the system,John.
  13. Someone has told me there is a "F1 Hybrid" in the UK could this be it? The lateral line by the way is the same as a Barbles but the fact this fish has hardly any barbles at all I doubt whether it is a hybrid between the two but saying that I have only seen these fish where both species exist. John.
  14. On a couple of the lakes we fish in Mercia and Andalucia there is a Carp the locals call a "Bancho" It looks like a Common but has only very small barbles that for weeks we haven't actually noticed were there. Its mouth is more Roach like than Carp and it has a latteral line of spots (On each scale) running the length of its body. In France I'm told they are called "Karasan" but am not sure of the spelling. I've tried a Google search on the name without success, can anyone help with info on this fish. John.
  15. Hi kairey,La Mancha is about a 4 hour drive I guess. As individuals we are willing to drive further maybe for a few days fishing and will take a look at it on the map etc.Its a bit far for an organised club fish. We intend doing the Ebro for a long weekend. Its an 8 hour drive but has to be done! We are still doing recces on lakes in our area and our club has only been going since March this year.It has been so difficult getting coarse licences from the Almeria ministry it has stopped many anglers from fishing. This we have now got sorted. We fish sea as well from the shore and boats.Shore fishing here is useless but we persevere. In answer to your question about lakes near Granada we have only fished Baza and la Peza. A lake some new fishing friends from down your way have told us about near Granada is said to have big Carp 30+ and Barble to 25lb (The latter seen but not caught).Big fish if true, other information given by them has to date proved to be correct. The biggest Carp I've had in the area is a 4 1/4 lb Common.Been broke up many times as I fish light. A friend fishes a pole with 14lb elastic and up to 10lb line and many a time has been broken by big fish that just wouldnt stop. I've ordered a 20 foot Milo Power Rod as I dont like fishing a pole but hope the pole method will work and that with a reel I will be in a position to play the bigger fish. Most of our lakes are full of small Carp and Barble to 1.5lb and getting through them to the bigger fish is difficult but if you catch enough like my friend does, normally between 100 and 200 in five hours a percentage of bigger fish will be caught. John.
