i usually use no less than 8 feet of drennan double strength 6lb with a 1 3/4 rod and get some vaseline on the hooklength to stop it sinking and dragging your bait around.

what is the best knot to attach the hooklink to swivel etc as i have had a couple of figure eight loops snap on me. has anyone else had this problem or is it me? felt like it snapped like cotton about 5 mill below the loop.

would it be worth air drying the baits to salvage them or would the flavours be re released on contact with the water?

think you may find that it`s more down to how you actually cast try a smooth cast and dab the spool to tighten the line just before it hits the water

try superglueing baits direct to hook then tie on with palomar knots.

try a drop of superglue mate easy peasy:D
