  1. Thanks for the tips Tidyboy do you know who has the fishing rights on the lake down Fenhouse drove (not far from Lake Helen) I used to fish it a long while ago but it's got a sign saying no day tickets now.

Hi Fozzy, I haven't fished westwood yet but reports from local tackle shop give good reports, spose this time of year it's small baits and light lines, Barbel aint great feeders in the cold. Let us know how you get on. I think the roach are just moving in now as the Grebe activity near the entrance to the Coronation Channel has increased. Should be just right for christmas hols.

No not sure who has the rights to fenhouse drove.

Im going to be having a change in my fishing this year coming, going to have a go at all course fish not just the carp and cats and all different methods just to freshen things up. Sort of like when i was a young lad. Gona have a good go over the winter trying to bag up on the pole around the local lakes, it will get the grey matter ticking again.

  2. Hi Tidyboy, have you got any tips on bait & methods for lake Helen + good pegs.

I found that targeting the far side against the field is most productive, fishing about 3-4 of the farbank ( the bank cuts down tight to the far side then plataus back up 3-4 feet from the bank ) fishing the top or just on the back of the downslop is good. Dare i say baitboats are good as you can get right tight or under the overhanging trees.

as for tatics anything your happy with and trust will work the same for bait. Think i was using 14mm singles or double 10mms bollies.

  3. ive had carp up to 22lb out of northview on the method, also had some nice fish upper teens on the fly rod all good fun. Im attacking it next year with my new pole, working on a bagging up method. It is annoying with so many people trying to fish the oposite bank there is just no need or thought goes into there fishing or consideration in to other anglers, lke the bite alarms on full blast.

Fished lake Helen as well taking some nice carp and a few large gold fish out of there.

  4. fished it many years ago, nice little water. No monsters in there but good fun a bait boat can help get right under the far bank where alot of the fish are. The problem i found was only a couple of good swims and if you get more than 4 people on there its abit crowed for me.

  5. what sort of thing you looking for in a bait?

a mate of mine runs a very good bait company, the range is ace and quality is of the highest standard.

the company is Bang on Baits based at Wellingborough, the range is taking some nice hauls of fish both here and France

i will pm you the web address, give james a ring and im sure you will find a bait you are loking for and at a good price plus all the back up bits as well

  6. The Scorpion and the Snake rig were Creations that I think Martin Clarke came up with on a Very hard Water in the South of the Country. Also from Memory I think they were Published in The Korda guide to Rigs

Apparently he had some very good fish on them. I don't know whether he lowered the rigs in or cast them, but I do know that they worked :!:

yes they were and i still have a copy of the book with a very young looking danny fairbrass in it as well.

  7. yer i know that some companies already do that type but was thinkin if somebody phone up and asked for 10 x combi rigs with stealth skin 8" long to a size 6 hook would be more custom made other than off the shelf bog standard 1s????

  8. Who on here buys ready tied rigs? or would buy them if they were to there spec and cheap enough?

im thinkin of the less experence anglers or older anglers having problems and maybe needing some help?

would there be a market them?

  9. To me the length of the hair depends on the lake im fishing to how wish the fish are and what everybody else is using. Sometimes i used rigs with short hairs by that i mean 5mm away from where it comes away from the hook and up to hairs of 3-4 cm in length.

When it comes to d rigs i like it quiet close to the ring but with a slight gab so when it is sucked in and blown back it acts like a hinge, the bait goes backwards and the hooks is forced downwards

I also also think that it depends on the size of the fish your targeting...

  10. regarding zig rigs, personally ive only dabbled with them, and ended up changing over to a bottom bait within a few hours (lack of confidence) i guess, must give them a proper go,

you would need to use a inline float. Have say 4-5 ft of hooklink to a swivel then have a clear small float and then fish with a running rig. cast out and tighten everything down then. loosen clutch and hand pull line until ur at the dept you want. if you want to be spot on mark on your rod 1 - 2 ft mark near your reel this makes it easier to count...
