Does it matter what strength hooklink you use

Recommended Posts

Hi mate. Generally speaking no not really, as long as you feel its strong enough to land the biggest fish you could possibly hook on your particular lake.

You also have to think about what swim your fishing... if your fishing an especially snaggy swim, perhaps a slightly stronger hooklink coupled with a stronger mainline would be advisable.

Many anglers prefer to use a slightly lighter hook-link than their mainline, so the hook-link will always tend to snap before the line- for the safety of the fish. However this isn't always possible with todays hook-links, which in my opinion are often too heavy

Hope that helps, Ben
