Hi I'm looking for a set of alarms with a receiver to buy for my brother for Xmas. I'm not looking for anything special just a cheapish set of 3 that have a receiver. Any recommendations? Thanks

I wouldn't use anything different t what you use here. Unless its mega weedy, i would just stick to your usual line, in 12lb, or maybe 15lb if you feel you must. Have you checked the lake rules?
Yeah and they say a minimum of 15lbs and my hook link needs to be coated is all they say

Hey guys I'm due to be going to a lake in France for a week next summer that has carp up to around 50lbs in it what mainline would you guys suggest i use? It's going to be the first time iv fished anywhere with fish this sort of size so any other advice would also be welcome. Thanks

As above will become second nature, try to slow the spool with your index finger on the hand holding the rod, whilst tightening the clutch with the other hand. Once mastered IMO its much faster and safer than with a baitrunner. When i had Bait runners, i never actually used it.
Thanks I'll certainly give this a try when I'm next out.

So I'm relatively new to carping as most of you will probably be able to tell from what I'm about to ask. I've been looking at buying some new reels as at the minute I'm just using some cheap baitrunners that I was given. So my question is I've looked at some reels that don't have a baitrunner on them so how exactly do they you set them up when fishing to allow the fish to take line in the same way as the baitrunners allow? Is it just a case of adjusting the drag to give less tension and then tightening the drag before you strike? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I said I'm new to all this. Thanks!
