Ive fished it down there - Moor Lane... It was a popular match stretch going back a fair few years. Theres some cracking sport in the canals in the inner cities.... Ive seen those fish - its so clear down there and theres all sorts of species. I used to get the odd carp on bread had a few - I worked up the road from there and spotted loads all the time..Oh what size were they going to fella?

I do a lot of carping on the rivers - If its really still you can get away with a stiffer hooklink and tubing or leadcore. If its running a bit - Try mono right through as it more supple. I find that river carp love really smelly baits and they must be easier to locate....

My pal Lee had a 31lb common out - they go bigger...loads of twenties in here but too many people know now!! Had a night there in march torrential rain and still caught...Sturgeon dont mind the colder weather either...

J R Tolkien grew up in Moseley birmingham (A fellow brummy). Many street names in Moseley now reflect the names from the middle earth in the book...

I loved the book too by Alex Garland - One of my all time faves... He has done another book - 'The casaract' Its in a soimilar vien - Based in a hhot and humid country the city of Manilla i think follows an underwordly figure - Pretty gripping stuff..He has business to attend to in Detroit and the main charachter ends up getting deeper into a conspiracy..

Cheers Ian.... I know the place now - Me and my younger brother tried them years ago...We managed a few small carp. It was a winter when we went and it was a barren looking place.. The 1st pool is rectangle and quite large whilst the others are smaller steep sloped holes in the ground...The place isnt looked after at all. -

Ive never heard of it mate... I thought i knew of most venues around here... Whereabouts is it ? - Im interested now!! -
Yeah im disdsapointed with the way the shutty lake has gone. The older bigger fish are in fishy heaven now. Theres estimated to be a dozen or so of the older fish. The restocking over a 2 year period included around 50 or so fish. Mainly 7-8 lb with some larger. The Cov lake / river is a better bet across the road.. Borrow pit is fishing OK - My pal had 3 gorgeous commons to 16.5 lb during the day. Lovely looking fish...I saw loads of them too so thingfs looking up. I definitely saw mugfish aswell and its nice to see so many fish after the floods a while back.

Allo there - how did you get on at willesley?? Can anyone let me know of any recent reports? I hope to get down for an overnighter midweek! Cheers guys......
-
Big scale the largest inhabitant came out of borrowpit at 31 lb the day after my session!!!!!!! grrr!
-
Well we had low pressure, warmer water, fishing facing a warm SW Wind and rain! All great! No fish though! During the day the tuftys took a liking to my red fish boilies even in 8 feet of water!! They really are efficient at finding bait! 5 RODS between me and my pal but not a sniff! Thats my 3 rd blank in a row on 3 hard carp waters - Elfpord Shutty and borrowpit! Next session is at Mineral lakes for a few guarenteed fish and a restore on confidence! Bah.....!!
-
Ill be down borrowpit tomorrow for an overnighter - Everything looks perfect for a few carp. Ill let you know how I get on.
-
I know a lot of regulars on the lake and its generally agreed to be tough venue - but it does have its moments.. It s peggy fopr the carp - Ive known good anglers spend weeks and have none to perhaps 2 fish to show for it! You must have hit it just right - fair play! I didnt hear about the flaming car business - Theres combination locks on the gates to stop vehicles getting stolen - but nothing in the world can stop some crackpot arsonist ! Weird - certainly isnt a regular thing - so give the place another try soon Ziplead or just give it a day sesh maybe...Where were you pegged and what carpark was it? cheers
-
Just to carry on the thread incase theres anyone thinking about giving this soul destroying venue a go! Its hard - Really hard - Made impossible vitually by a nasty algae bloom that last s well into late september. This renders the lake unfishable. The only place to put a bait in is where the river runs or did ruN in the lake... I like a challenge but cripes ! Ive had good tench - god bream =- nets full on the pole and feeder - But carping - You really need to put the hours in and bait up a few areas... Ive had 2 now - yep in as many years! I have to say - i havnt seen many caught either? Ive joined the lamb! does anyone on here fish the nearby shutty lakes and cov ;lakes??

I fished the matchlake rather than the usual older lake. I had to leave early in the morning to avoid the match - But ouy can nightfish it. Its very weady - Must be a nightmare for the pole anglers - In a night i banke 3 carp Smallest was 8 lb biggest 15lb. i WENT THE FAR SIDE AND FISHED IT BETWEN THE SMAL ISLANDS. i used 2 - 3 oz fixed lead set on a transparent leader - Good ov er weed. Fish wer e in ok condition too. Baits were source boilies and home made pastes.... -
yes mate - no probs ill dig out my permit for ya nd let you know...

well Ffinger - theres sheepy magna and market bosworth has got a place -friedslands. Both let you nightfish within an hour of you...Im a member in birchmore ac - owwn a lot of natural lakes that are part of the anker river system. Partly why i bought a house down here. These are true blue old carp. Reall nomadic and can be tricky to catch. Id rather catch these fish than stockies any day. Nightfishing is allowed and youve got about 15 miles of river and lakes and canals to go at. all for a £20 per annum ticket! The lamb ac in tamworth have some lakes and the opposite sideson the lakes i fish. They let you night fish aswell. -
its a mixed fishery - its got a lot of potential as a venue its huge and deep. Theres mainly roach, perch skimmers, bream and good pike and good carp. Dont expect to bag up on carp - there fairly few and its peggy for them aswell. they run big up to thirty or so pounds. this time of year its really hard and in the summer it can produce well on cerain pegs - 2-3 fish is a good day. TRY BY THE STREAM , AND THE RESERVE.
-
The lamb has loads of water by me near amington and shuttington aswell. Loads of pike at thje mo in shuttington - i had a cou[ple of tens last couple of weeks and jacks. Great for a 2-3 hour sesh - keep on the move and stay warm Carp n borrowpit will be hard this time of year to say the least! LEAVE IT TIL NEXT YEAR!! The river ankers good in amington for a mixed bag. Good chub omn the right pegs. Hey barbel to 13 lb now too! sssshhh!!

I was a member 3 years ago and i used to fish all the pools. It was greatthen - id have ton up bags out of the match pool. Biggest on pole went 18lb! Back then they were gradually removing the better stamp carp out the match lake into the speci lake. I never caught on that lake at all, Ive seen just a couple of fish taken. Theres a big barr down the bottom end 40 yards out - thats where they are im told. Personally id get to know the smaller pools there s biggish carp in those lakes!
