Boilies

no need to pay silly money for bait , £5/£6 a kilo will get you a decent bait no need to pay £10+ kg .

as for amounts that depends were i am fishing , some places you will need a good bit about to pull the fish down and keep them feeding others a stick will do but some were else they will spook of a stick . all part of the puzzle to crack individual waters .

i would say i get through 250 to 300kg of boilie per year,im not saying what i pay as other users of this bait could feel out done, but its like most things the more you buy the cheaper it is,but what price do you put on a fish of a lifetime?and i dont mean just money, any spare minute i get is 9 times out of 10 spent down my lake watching and learning the carp's habits, the more you put into your fishing the more you get out of it,its that simple

i do a similar theory however i fill up a pva bag/mesh with pellets boillies and alsorts, normally make a lil cocktail. I tend to add pellets to feed the area oposed to boillies, however even so i get through a handfull tops, fill a pva bag up then slowly throw 5-10 pellets or boillies in around my hookbait every now and again.

I don't like to over feed, i feel if i want the fish to take some bait ild like it to take my bait.

This could be the wrong way of going about it lol

a few Shelf Life Smokey Mackerals, and caught on them all. I have caught far more fish on food baits than Attractor Shelf Lifes.

I know that the Smokey is attractive and catches fish, from first visit to long term.

So.......have you found Shelf life Smokey Mackerels catch and are kosher? not caught on them yet but there is time just wanted to hear from someone else that has used them.

As has been said before, is this working for you Jaxx? If it is, then there's nothing wrong with this approach at all, but I would think it is totally reliant on your watercraft being bang on every session!

This method of fishing is fine if you know that you are placing these small parcels of food onto known feeding spots or patrol routes in your lake, but the drawback is that you tend to pick up fewer fish as you're fishing for them one at a time.

By baiting an area with larger amounts of a decent food bait, you will encourage the fish to return to that area more often, put enough in and you could hold them there "waiting" for the next meal, this method tends to not only produce multiple captures, but often results in the larger residents being caught as the smaller, less weary, carp's feeding activity gives them a sense of security too and creates "competition" for the food, if you can achieve this then you'll be in for a real red letter day!

Personally I only ever fish your method on a roving rod, casting at showing fish outside of my feed areas, and yes, it does produce fish regularly on this basis, however I feel that I would lose many of the the mulitple captures I've had if I chose to only follow that approach.

Looking back over the years, I would say that the average use of boilies per 48hr session is around 2.5kg, but looking at the most successful anglers over recent years, well, they're more in the area of 200kg to 300kg+ per annum as mentioned above!

This thread's in danger of turning into a "I get mine cheaper than you" scenario, what matters here is not what you can get your bait for, but what you can afford to put in. If your budget is low, then you will have to accept that and make up a cheaper methid of attraction (say particles) and become proficient in that method, if your budget is high, then you can be more extravigant!

Remeber this though.... 40kg of bait in the wrong area is nowhere near as good as a single in the right one fella

i still must be doing it wrong if i only get through a handfull per 24 hour session

fish to with in your budget mate, some people can afford to bang the bait in! I can't so stick to spod mixes and stick mixes,

down to boilie choice I use Premier went to them from mainline and my catch rate went through the roof I stick to 2 different boilies from them and experiment with other stuff on my 3rd rod.
