Thought this would be a laugh...

So im 15, at school im with the lads, same as them im into me footie, girls, music the lot.

But as soon as i get home ( which is in a small village 15 mins from town) im tying rigs, threading tubing, coming on carp.com forums. thinking about catching a fish, and going off down to local lakes fishing.

Saturday nights the lads are at a house party and im on the towpath bivvied up with me dads mate hunting the the ever elusive 20. All i think about is carp. and save my money up towards bait. rod reels, end tackle etc...

Just suppose im hooked :lol::lol:

As chris said balance is the key, if you find yourself fishing more than socialising you may find when your 18 you go off the rails and pack up fishing for 10 years as many do, if you balance the two you will be able to do both without packing up the fishing. As chris said your only 15 once, you can carp fish when your 50 but not patry ( perhaps a little contoversial):D i hope that helps.

Im sure you will get alot of responses from people who have been in the same boat as you :D

i know where your coming from mate, when i was 15 and just got into carp fishing after years of tiddler bashing all i could think about was carp this carp that.

I was very lucky at 14 to get the chance to go to France and now looking back at it, it wernt the best place in terms of french lakes but boy at the time was i chuffed!!!! i had 8 carp bigest being 23lb. I have been at least once every year since - sometimes twice :P

lucky for me a had a some great mates who were all into fishing to some degree and we all ended up on the lake side on the weekends and down the local pond after school.....thinking about it we were probbaly a massive pain the the behind to other anglers haha.

They were the best times of my fishing life, as now its hard work getting out to a lake, with having a full time job, bills and a girlfriend to tend to befor i can get my lines wet :(

My advice - get out there as often as you can, cus when you leave school and get into the ''real world'' it can be a right pain just to grab the odd 24 hour sesh!!

Probably the closest you'll get on a thread is this one:

https://forum.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=34474

Sounds pretty usual to me, every weekend I went fishing with my mates, and then at the age of 1* (starred 'cos I'm not admitting the truth) was drinking on a Friday night and fishing Saturday and Sunday. Even when I left home the weekends were split between Socialising and Fishing, normally alternatively, although occasionally the 2 did mix.

It wasn't until I was 21 that I really started concentrating on Carp fishing as I had some excellent fishing for other species around locally as well

Its all about a balance mate, do the things you can do now that you can't in future. Go to parties, meet girls, but also go fishing, remember your only 15 once.

That's very good advice.

Do what you enjoy mate but don't neglect your social life as you could miss out on some very special moments with your mates.

I fished loads just for anything that came a long really until i was about 13 - 14 then i started going out more and more . I only really got back into my fishing about 5 years a go. I still go out with the lads but I also still go fishing. I get a bit of stick off them when I'm fishing for being " sad " but it's all in good humour

Just enjoy yourself , you're only young once :wink:8)

I took a break from fishing from 15-19, decided that beer, women, illicit substances and the lure of punk rock and touring was more interesting!! Got back into the fishing when I 'matured' slightly and got a bit more sensible!

Enjoy your younger years and don't neglect the fun side of it mate, the fish will still be there afterwards :)

thanks for replies, dead interesting to see other people experiences,

Think Nick menitoned it.. and it' what i seem to do alot,

be out on friday, doing things i really shouldnt be, fish saturday, sometimes saturday night, then football matches on the sunday,

I got a great set of mates, well 2 sets..

1. Ill knock about with in school. and have a good laugh at the weekends.

2. The ones that are into their fishing aswell, who come out with me and we talk 'Carp'.

Only a couple of people ( me being one) who can drift between the 2 no preoblem atall..

im 16 in a few months, and am getting a 50 motorbike, maybe ill find that i lose interest in fishing for a bit - who knows? It happened recently, i was with a girl for 4/5 months, and i just didnt really go fishing.. made me get right into now because of it though......

as previously mentioned you need to make sure fishing doesnt take over your life and to have other hobbies and interests.

some of my non fishinf mates call me and my fishing mates sad and boring when we go fishing but only as a laugh as they know that we all have other interests.

one day i can be fishing, the next motor sports, the next raving in field, the next in the pub, the next walking in the forest.

remember variety is the spice of life

I think the majority of us have been there, I have, fished as a youngest on the local canel and pit for tench whenever I could, after school and the weekends etc. Then got into cycle racing in a big way and that then took up all of my time, then women take off so the bike fell away.

Got back into Carping a few years ago after many years away from the rods, have since started playing competitive Ice Hockey.

I have a good balance between relaxing and "exercise" as well as being able to go out on the town with the hockey boys.

Just don't let whatever you do completely take over your life, it's in the process of costing me my marriage

I did the same as most.

Got into raving (proper raving!) at the age of 18 and fished less often.

Got proper back into it at the age of 22.

Unfortunately my family situation has turned upside down and I cant get out to fish at all.

I personally think you should do the things now that you know you cant in the future. Dont lash your life away but I have had some amazing times in public houses.

Just thought i'd add my views, Im currently 18, and to be honest i am finding im on the bank alot less, There just isn't enough days in the week to do everything, College, Girlfriend, clubbing. As most as already said, don't neglect your mates, you might miss some funny stuff, (mate pulling some fat bird after getting smashed  ) but don't forget fishing all together, sometimes, a little " i haven't go the dosh to go out tonight" should get you away for a couple of hours

Dude, just enjoy it whilst you can!! I'm only a few years down the line from there now, but the times I had when I was 18 were immense, and you can get away with sooo much more back then than now! Life gets more stressful, you get responsibilities and other such nonsense, and it all goes downhill from there!!

If I was in your situation, I'd be out hammering it and living it up with my mates, fishing will always be there to go back to later in life once the good times are slowing up and the hangovers/comedowns are wearing off :)

Hopefull (....busy corrupting the youth   )

Definitely, I went to the Bournemouth Summer Ball at the weekend and still feel rough.

The hangovers do get worse.

Responsibilities? Well that is up to the individual but if we want security then we have to take them seriously.

I would love to be 18 again. Uni was brilliant too. I am still only 24 but I know I'm not far away from slowing it all down a tad.

I'm around your age mate, and it's all kicked in big-style for me now. Got a degree to finish, I'm a supervisor at work now so thats even more hassle to sort out with the little sods I'm in charge of, as well as doing another project-management related job at the same time for the BBC. Combine that with family, friends and other commitments, its all getting a bit of a handful!! All good fun though :)

I'm one of those people that fished until I was about 15 (started when I was 4 with my grandad) then found out about other things that were soooo much more interesting!! Jacked in fishing pretty much altogether for 6 years, and then the Dorset Stour called me back one day while walking the dogs.....Never looked back.

Dont worry about it if you dnot want to go fishing, just dont sell up ya gear to pay for booze ! You'll regret it if u do!

Enjoy your teens mate, dont take anything too seriously, be carefull:lol:

Going carp fishing or going out on the pull ?

I dont see a lot of difference beetween the two, both involve....

Choosing a location which you feel might get you a little action.

Acting with stealth and craft when stalking your chosen quarry.

Making sure your tackle is up to the job and taking care to guard your rod with a protective covering.

Patience.

Failures

Making a fool out of yourself jumping up and down to loud electronic sounds

Winning over a big old lump and taking it back to your place if you are lucky

Taking a few photos  and getting covered in a fishy slime

Putting her back and not seeing her again :)
