smufter
Family down for dinner this Sunday so no chance of getting out, but have booked a swim for Tuesday. Lake seems to be waking up a little as a couple of decent fish have been out over the last week after a long period of inactivity. I'm learning that they prefer a sweeter bait in this particular water, so have ordered a sample of chocolate orange pop ups to have a go with. Fingers crossed. If you want a good sweet bait the CSL from responsive baits is top notch. Well worth a go.

Had to hold the brolly down from the inside by the spokes. It's the worse winds I've fished in. Foot high waves on a 5 acre lake. The waves were actually being lifted off the surface and disintegrating into big puffs of mist. Plenty of trees cracking. I literally had to fish a rod length out due to the weed and dead fall being blown past like on a river. Died down last night and I managed to get some sleep. Woke up at first light to a beautiful Spring morning, completely different place.... Had a walk round and cleared the paths. There's still the odd bit of dead fall hanging in one or two trees, so anyone fishing the next few days be careful where you set up lads...... ..... A big fat blank, but if fishing is full of memories, this session will definitely be remembered for the "squeaky bum time" on Weds night..... Hopefully back there on Sunday. I was fishing a 72 acre resivour a few years back and the wind picked right up, waves were crashing into the bank spraying into my brolly so I turned it around thinking I'd be better off, the wind got that bad that it broke all the spokes away from what it was holding onto on the brolly and I had to stitch them back in place with bait floss till the end of the session, luckily I caught a pb of 29lb 2 oz so it made it all worth it lol B.C.

I felt like a prisoner, front panel on to stop the wind getting in. All I could leave was a 2 inch triangle opening to view through, the wind even got through that with the odd gust. I had to sit like that for about nine hours until it died off a bit. Every time a huge gust came through the long grass and trees behind me, I actually though, this is the one, this is the one that lifts me off the ground...lol.... I'll probably laugh about it for quite a while. Three times in the past year I have had my bivvy blown inside out by fierce winds. I was glad this time I wasn't fishing, although spending the day and night being sick wasn't part of my plans! Got Sunday off, so I reckon a day on The Lea might be an idea... That is typical BC, it was always the same when I went on Birmingham Anglers working parties during the close season - they're the ones that are missing out though as you get to see the venue from a different perspective. salokcinnodrog
Get up this morning to discover front left puncture, after hitting pothole yesterday, so after a careful slow drive to F1 Auto centre, check the rest. Rear tyres starting to perish round the outer wall. Choice made have 4 new tyres fitted. OUCH! crusian
Ah , just joking BC . ; I knew you would be one of those guys that puts stuff back neatly after he has used them . But their is a new found respect and bond between the lads that did show up. I remember touching on this subject before on the "Instant Carper " thread that ran a little while back. This is the reason why I keep my distance a bit from a lot of new faces until I see them mucking in a bit. Once you know they care about a place, you see them in a different light, well, at least I do . A couple of lads weren't even regulars, but fish a different one of the clubs lakes. I'll try and do the same in return when their WP dates come up. Im one of these people that hasnt done a work party, Feel quite guilty really but i cant even fish at the weekend let alone do a work party due to family commitments. I always try and do bits and pieces when im at the lake, Trim bushes, clear the paths or remove rubbish, in summer i usually have a shovel in my car. but yeah i do feel guilty and people should have to attend at least one a year in order to renew your membership. I've seen near riots at the mention of such things at AGMs (yep more than one [club] and more than once). Not everyone can afford the time, that's a fact of life and there's nothing wrong with that - it's usually the biggest moaners about the state of things that are the ones who can't possibly do anything about it - doing their hair, toenails or maybe hair on their toenails? etc.. I see them as an opportunity, but I am not a member of any clubs (see everyone has an excuse ) but I have done several in the past :halo: . The club I joined is Colchester Angling Preservation Society, or C.A.P.S...... They have several decent waters right on my doorstep. Like most clubs though, their waters tend to get busier from Easter through to about late September. But for the ticket price and night permit they've got quite a lot to offer, from runs waters to a couple of big fish waters. And the odd stretch of river and canal as well. There are one or two decent pike coming out on a couple of the lakes too. Worth a look if you're looking to join a club in Essex. I think I remember BC that you have mentioned before that you belong to C.A.P.S. . I may well look to join C.A.P.S. in the future . jh92
Day session on the canal for me, I usually try and fish for one species at a time, but I'm gonna have one rod out for carp fished over a bed of bolies and another out on a deadbait for a pike, I'll probably use sardines. Its been months since I last caught a fish and its really starting to get to me, so really just after some sort of action this weekend lol. I'm also thinking of getting a third rod soon to increase my chances abit lol B.C.
