j20nyh
I've decided to go ahead and order a pair of 2.75lb tc Free Spirit CTX rods and would like opinions on what reels to complete the setup and why?
buzzbomb
Something with a really good drag (clutch) just in case you get into some good fish. The leading manufacturers have all had hits and misses but some models are known for quality. Size has to do with requirements (the waters you plan to fish) and personal choice. I like a big reel so on my Spirit 2.75 I have a Shimano xte-a 10000. There may be others chime in on this momentarily, but I have to keep painting. hoorayhenri
snoozer
Any reel with the name starting with Shimano and ending in baitrunner will do nicely. I mostly find i'm using my 8010's in most situations as i haven'tfished a BIG pit yet !  I would love a set of baby baitrunners for the odd pond i chuck a bait into but the shimano ones look cakkkk  Someone once told me Daiwa make decent reels but i think that was more hype than fact

I did.  I like to play up, too.  Ian  PS To tell the truth I've got Daiwa reels as well as Shimano. It's just that a few months ago I bought three Shimano Bigbaitrunner Longcasts , they are just sublime and I'm in love with them. dalthegooner and snoozer
spr1985
Are the shimano St6000 rb bait runners any good? Edited October 31, 2015 by spr1985
welder
Are the shimano St6000 rb bait runners any good?  Yes, they are but have a look at the ST10000RA's. Virtually the same price but slightly larger spool capacity.  My son uses three of them and loves them to bits. Less than £50 each if you look around and worth every penny in my humble opinion.  Ian  salokcinnodrog
spr1985
I found a pair of brand new st 6000's for under £80 but I'll have a look at the ones you said, thanks [emoji3]
spr1985
I've also found the st10000rb for under 100 quid for two but can't find a comparison between the rb and the fact.... Can anyone help

androoooo
I believe the a/b/c on Shimano models are to reflect the version of the reel. So any with a "a" will have been the first model produced. "B" The second and so on.

salokcinnodrog
Personally with 2.75lb Tc rods I would go for 10000 size Baitrunners, I think the 6000 range is too small  As for reels, for me, There can be only one...   Shimano!   As an additional, the DL range is the next range up from the ST, I think, I can see no reason to spend DL money unless you honestly prefer them, the quality is no less than the cheaper range. hoorayhenri

Just wondering why you'd say the 6,000 is too small. The diameters the same, the only difference is the depth of the spool. The 6,000 holds 240m of 0.35mm line. I wouldn't think it would help casting and the only real benefit is the extra line holding capacity but for most situations the 6,000 would hold enough? Am I missing something? If not then I'd pick the 6,000 if their cheaper as they're essentially the same reel.

As was highlighted on here a few weeks ago (Apologies, I can't remember who by ) the Cost of Shimano reels are tumbling and Total have started drastically reducing them Edited November 1, 2015 by dalthegooner

snowmanstevo
Think it was Phil (chill factor) who 1st flagged the price drop. chillfactor
marker
if you buy shimano I'd recommend the ci4 versions of their reels, they are much lighter than the standard versions I've had some ci4 ultegras for a few years now and I couldn't go back to something heavier
