cyborx
hey, has anyone got an idea how i would go about drying out snails and slugs for natural hook baits? for some strange reason we have a proliferation of both in my back garden, so much so that you darnt go out in the evening without footware else you come back in with slug matter on your socks i could probably gather up in excess of 30 to 40 per night its that bad
newmarket
Why dry em out if you have a regular supply ? I have the same .
muftyboy
I've had carp and some nice perch on slugs, picked straight off the bivvy and onto the hook.
cyborx
just cant stand mounting them on the hair (blurgh) can you put em direct to the hook without masking the point?

cyborx
will have to try that (with a nice big hook) dont mind a maggot bursting but when a slug goes pop its puke city and have you ever tried getting that mess off your hands? impossible
fraserking
Call me a girl, but I think I'll give the snail/slug hookbait tactic a miss!
blanksalot
Try freezing them , they may not explode when hair rigging and would defrost quite quickly once in the water, saskcarp

buzzbomb
You can put a hole through a snail shell with a cordless drill and hair rig it. Saskcarp found pictures in a Japanese fishing site long ago. saskcarp
salokcinnodrog
I've had carp and some nice perch on slugs, picked straight off the bivvy and onto the hook. Carp, chub, perch and pike for me, although the pike was an accident, took it on the drop on the river, while aiming for a chub. Straight onto the hook, a biggie, as much as a size 2. mooseman
Put down a big plate smeared with some kind of sugar, collect them all up in the morning and lay out between 2 sheets of ply. They will dry out nice and crusty but better to use fresh!
