Avid Arctic Gear hat. Seriously warm

No offence Biff never saw the point of maggot clips, much better with needle and 1lb line :?

That hats now on my wanted list! Proper toasty!

Knew I shouldn't have let you have a try :D if you me n guy fish together we'll look like triplets( I'm the good looking one of course  )

 Of course :D

We'd probably be the most funny shaped and sized triplets ever seen!

I'd have to meet the parents. Just the once, of course............

Carl is of average/stocky build and height and is great company despite being a damn fool Yam Yam.

Guy resembles a pie. You are what you eat...he's as high as he is wide and is another damn fool Yam Yam.

Andy is slim, six foot twelve tall and very odd indeed...barking, in fact, but NOT a damn fool Yam Yam. Just a fool, in the nicest possible way..

These are some of the people I call friends. Note to self. "Get out more".

Ian

Not actually received them yet, but I've ordered a set of early Shimano Baitrunner 6500's for my collection of retro kit.

They go with some Sundrige Magnatonic bite alarms, a KJB rod pod, a home made set of bite indicators, North Western Dyneema Multirange rods, etc etc. oh yes and a genuine camo floppy hat.

Really looking forward to using them when the weather improves a bit, (not saying its windy, but the neighbours garden wall went down this morning!).

An MSR Quick Skillet 32 frying pan.

It's extremely light and has a folding removable handle. I've spent months looking for a decent frying pan, and this is my fourth attempt at getting one that I am happy with

I hope that the non stick is tough and it meets up to expectations.

Oh oh folding handle alert !

Sounds like it Newmarket. Deffo not for me, or any of my mates for that matter.

Me? I have an old 10" non-stick household frying pan with the handle unscrewed. This fits inside my ex Army gas mask bag along with a Vango nesting stainless pan set, a couple of mugs, my cutlery set, a few teaspoons, a couple of melamine plates, a breakfast bowl, several gas lighters, and my tin openers.

It isn't elegant, but its been very functional over the years. :D

Forget about buying the Army surplus gas mask bag, they have gone through the roof in price over the last few years apparently (just looked on Ebay), I got my old Mk 7 for a fiver back then, now they are around £30. You can get a Molle pack for that!

Korum Day Session Shelter II

Super bit of kit, not a bivvy but acts as one, especially on overnighters in Summer, and in the colder months it's far better than any brolly for keeping the wind off during my day sessions.

It rolls tightly enough to fit in the centre section of my Wychwood 3 rod quiver without undue effort.

Also should you just happen to have an old overwrap from a long defunct JRC Defender bivvy, (see it rolled up on the bedchair in the picture above), you might be able to convert it to this:-

Ok you can actually buy a proper overwrap for it, but I am a Yorkshireman and we come with hermetically sealed wallets, that are specially rigged to cause us pain when we have to open them.

Great choice of kit dalthegooner.

I was looking very closely at one of these korum shelters . they look like a really good bit of kit , but somebody ,in a recent thread on here , put me off it by saying that it was an absolute nightmare to put up and pack away ?

what say you bof ?

Thanks Bof. Days are the reason I bought it. Not worried about an overwrap, will look into getting a groundsheet made though.

It was the Multi Shelter that they were talking about mate, not the day shelter.

I got the JRC Contact in the end for £85 and its very good, simple to put up and dismantle and sturdy on windy days

Lots of options for the front, zipped off or on but rolled back or shut with mozzie door etc

Hard to beat for the money for days and warmer weather overnights

  • 2 weeks later...

Two zippo handwarmers.

Got totally fed up with the charcoal sticks going out on my handwarmer (They are definitely inferior quality charcoal sticks on the market these days. They NEVER went out when I was a kid!) so invested in a pair of Zippo's (They've gone down to £12.72 on Amazon (From Amazon, not a 3rd party)) and have had them on a test run for a couple of hours so far this afternoon.

Have to say, the 'filling jug' is rubbish, I've got a Zippo fuel canister which I'll probably use in the future, unless I can come up with a more efficient way to use the jug; but the hand warmers are top drawer and will be a great addition to my winter fishing 8)

They were either stupid or lying! Its the easiest shelter to put up I have ever come across.

1) take it out of the bag

2) there are only two poles in three sections to connect, and they are already threaded up with bungee elastic and sewn onto the tent. Just unfold them and they will slide together easily.

3) take tension strap and connect the two ends together to get the shape right.

4) peg out the back of the shelter and pull the front out then peg that down.

5) there are 3 clip on tension poles that hold the shelter to its shape and stop the fabric from flapping. Clip them in place.

It will now look like this (without the bed chair of course):-

Job done. :D
