southcoastden
I am thinking of using the new ESP mega method feeder at my local lake as an additional option. I know that there are lots of bait options for this type of fishing, but can anyone recommend a good proven mix that I could try?
matt859
Vitalin. The stuff in the yellow bag. Nice and cheap and you can add more bait to it as it binds well.
brighton_carper
I'd second the Vitalin suggestion. Very cheap and works as well as any of the stuff from bait companies.
pearbo
Scalded carp pellet, don't think u need to take any notice of DF and his stick/method mixes, they must cost a fortune to make. Also wrap it round an inline lead, much cheaper, especially if u have a miscast next to an island.
southcoastden
Thanks for the replies guys. I have not heard of using Vitalin before so I googled it and it seems to be popular and is the topic of this and other fishing forums. The only issue that seems to arise is that some people have a problem getting the right consistency. What is your advice on mixing it right so that it sticks long enough to reach the lake bed? salokcinnodrog
Thanks for the replies guys. A few ways to mix it: Add boiling water the night before you use it and stir through with a long handled implement so it is all wet. Add water on the bank, stir and mix and let stand for about 30 minutes. Both methods will leave the groundbait sticky and as long as you've not added too much water, quite stodgy, perfect for balling or method mix. You can also add prepped particles with the water as your liquid content, but let stand for 30minutes before use or it won't stick. It does also make a good base to add pellets and other crumb, crushed hemp etc
poleaxe21
I tend to use 75% Vitalin to 25% Pellet. Combined with boiling water (I use the water i cooked my hemp in) it really stiffens the mix nicely. The great thing about vitalin is it will still hold even with large amounts of "extra" baits in the mix. Casters and 10 millers are my favourite but you really can use anything. Be aware though that vitalin has a high food content all of it's own...
