dannyash
hello everyone this isnt another " whats the best pod " thread, im just after your oppinions on what pod you have and what you think of it, just to give me some idea of what to get and what not to get thanks
salokcinnodrog
I have a really expensive pod It was a Badger rod pod that I picked up at 5Lakes Carp show a few (cough, ahem) years ago, and cost about £50. It has an aluminium frame and buzz bars with stainless steel fixings and screws, and can also be used as a simple goalpost set-up or even central sticks with bars without using the whole pod. I must admit that the screws in some places are working loose where stainless has loosened up where it meets aluminium. I like the fact that I can use it in either mode with no problems, and is my criteria for choosing a pod as I prefer to use sticks where possible, but sometimes the banks are just too hard, or fishing on stagings where a pod is essential. On that basis I would actually be looking at Fox, and thinking about either the Quattro, or X-Pod plus, and the X comes complete with Buzz bars: http://www.foxint.com/catalogues-products.php?section=16&product=411&catalogue=1 They may not be nice and shiny, bright stainless steel, but they do the job required very comfortably, and to me, the more discreet finish would actually be more in place on the bank Of course if you want the utimate in bright and shiny, the Solar Sod Pod, is still one of the best
welder
Danny, like Nick, I too prefer to use seperate sticks but there are many times when this isn't practical so I use my elderly Fox A-pod, bought off eBay for next to nothing. This pod has almost no adjustment and will not allow me to fish with the butt rings "my" side of the alarms. For this reason I covet, and frequently borrow, my son's JRC X-lite pod. Adjustable in every conceivable direction, very well made and with spare, longer, support legs to allow for tip-down setup. Typically 70 quid. I'll buy one soon. My son insists upon this. travisbickle
I have an old fox A pod...and its very serviceable still....but usually favour single sticks as my avatar shows.....for my fishing abroad I use these or a sky pod....which is excellent

smufter
I've got a Cygnet Quicklock and love it. Very lightweight (although sturdy when up) and very quick to set up. Comes with 2 x 3 rod buzz bars as standard but you can buy 2 rod bars as an optional extra for about £20.00. http://www.cygnettackle.co.uk/product.php?id=
emmcee
ive got a custom built stevie nevielle pod in his f/o range. cost about £200 or there abouts. excellent bit of kit but boy it weighs a ton. hardly ever use it though as im a sticks man myself. only brought it really as i was left abit of money when my gran passed and got told to buy something that would last. last?,it will be around longer than me

salokcinnodrog
Thanks for the input guys, I'm stuck between the fox Quattro and the solar sod pod, decissions decissions The Solar do hold their value very nicely, especially if you get the extra bells and whistles. I've seen them go on ebay for as much as £500 The Quattro I don't think comes with Buzzer Bars, unlike its cheaper X rated brother which does. In this case, I would actually go for the cheaper pod myself. Another manufacturer that may be worth looking at could well be Matrix. For ideas on that, talk nicely I think to Stoogi, or Jemsue5, but in their current abscence of this very second, try this: http://www.matrixinnovations.co.uk/products.php?id=1 I knew that there was one about: https://forum.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=54841 It has some specifications of various manufacturers pods from when it was originally started
jemsue5
The quattro does come with buzzer bars as for the solar sod pod ive had two and i dont think they are on a par with the stability of the quattro. A cheaper option would be the fox xpod+ which is a great piece of kit.
pearbo
have had both the sod pod and the quattro. sod pod got pulled over, once while fishing out into the lake, sold that piece of rubbish and have had a quattro for ten years. Awesome, solid, well made and safe. light if u want to move as well. one thing tho, the range of adjustment front to back is limited a so if the banks are steep it could be a problem. buzzbomb
I have a Fox Horizon 3 rod pod, in a land of the 1 rod rule. That qualifies me as a tackle tart where I live. I used German methods on it when I first got it and broke a lock, then another one subsequently due to still half German, and the wonderful people at Fox sent me a pair of replacements off a returned pod at no cost! It seems to be totally adjustable and I really like it. Kindness to idiots is always rewarded and Fox was very good to me - I recommend Fox. ozzyakadrew
I can recommend the Pro logic Lux 3 rod pod It's a very solid all rounder, you can adjust the middle so you can have your butt ring behind the alarms, it comes in its own case, fully adjustable for sinking the rod tips, you can set it up euro style for fishing over reeds and it is stable enough for fishing locked up I have had mine for about 3-4 seasons and it only cost me £50 in my local tackle shop but you can get one secondhand on a well known auction site for about £30. Guest fenboy
Having had both a sod pod and a fox quattro I would go for the fox one every time the solar one gets pulled over to easily , with the quattro you can also use the bars and sticks for goalpost set ups or single sticks if required , it also adjusts much better to enable getting the butt ring behind alarms. I totally agree with Nick, I too had the badger Quad pod, great kit for the money, but did work loose (to the extent that I didn't think it would last another season). My father in law has my Badger pod now (he'll use it 3 or 4 times a year, not 4 or 5 times a month, so it'll last him) and I've upgraded to Matrix bars and sticks, I use their cross-bars in place of the quad frame on the badger pod, does the same job...
