Pods versus bank sticks ?

Recommended Posts

i read in some mags that there are pros and cons which one is best.

Pods have an advantage that your rods are all together so easier to get too. This is great if useing backleads in particular useing 3/4 rod pod.

The disadvantage is that when useing 3 rods or 4 the lines have to be at an angle otherwise even with back leads on all 3 or 4 rods there could be a tangle or confusion particular at night.

Bank sticks disadvantage is that they have to be wider apart (more than 2 rods out) and the carper has to move further from where he is sitting. But the lines can be at 90 angle instead at a angle of maybe 45 angle. bank sticks are also steadier in windy conditions unless useing a very heavy pod or its tied down.

does the forum agree with there and my opinions

Is this any use?

I'm still using that battered pod and with the goalpost buzzer bars from this thread. Theer is a picture on there where I have set it up as just the goalpost with sticks.

Also a bit on some single stick preferences in that link

If you're going to fish various waters then you really need to carry both. Personally, if I have the choice, I use bank sticks. I can space them out so I've got space to maneuver the middle rod, and they're just more flexible. But, if you're fishing somewhere that has platforms or very hard swims in the summer, then I'd be stumped without a pod.

I use both dependent on circumstances but if you can only afford one decent set up i'd have say buy the pod as in some pegs like platforms as mentioned and on some gravel pits you'd need a sledge hammer to get your sticks in the ground where as a decent pod you can level up in any swim .

Not sure verses is the expression I would use.

Both have their place.

I carry both and use which ever one suits the conditions at the time...

Yeah, the pods place being the bin........

I will always get my sticks in, no matter what.

Not on some of my waters Coops, unless they screw into solid granite rocks or concrete, hate to say it pods a must on some of my waters

I would rather use Banksticks as there is more freedom to space and select the presentation wanted. While on the otherhand, the use of a POD with locations that have hard ground, wood deck or even concrete is definitely Best. I Agree that keeping both available is a requirement and each has it's pos/neg to deal with. JMHO!!!!!

I also prefer banksticks but I fish alot of different day ticket lakes so all banks vary. Some lakes I have never been before. I always play it safe and carry both unless I know I can use single sticks for sure. Admittedly it does weigh me down a bit but I suppose that's part of the game.

Plenty of pods which have removable sticks. There's a thought could be my next buy lol. Any recommendations?

Tight lines!!!

I have some very awkward banks on the lake I fish. Hard gravel, steep inclines, marshy areas etc. etc. so I came up with what I thought I needed and had it made (by an engineer mate).

The whole system is quite heavy, but I've not come across anywhere that I haven't been able to get a rock solid set up as yet!

I use it as a goalpost front and single rear stick if I can push (not hammer) the banksticks in or in pod form if the ground is hard.

All depending on the venue and the style of fishing you will be doing will govern the presentation of your rods. Stalking I would carry my bank sticks, open water I'd be getting the pod out.... :D

i like to have each rod tip pointing straight at the lead/end tackle, as i feel it cuts down on line angles, and, i think, improves bite indication. so single sticks are my preferred choice, but if fishing over bed of bait, where the distance between both hookbaits are not far apart, or the ground it too hard for the use of sticks witout having to hammer the backside out of the ground, i'll use the pod, its in my rod holdall, but i rarely use it.

You've gotta have both - there is no versus.

Also when you think that you've often got yards of slack line out it makes a bit of a mockery of having to point each rod exactly at the spot, doesn't it.

Just read this one which mentions a hammer. Surely if there is the need to even tap a bankstick with a hammer once, you should use the pod more readily instead.

A hammer - unreal!

i mean "hammer" in the discriptive sense... i hasten to add i do not carry a mallet with me to get my sticks in, if i cant push them in, then i'll use the pod. hammering with a mallet is not good angling!!!

Glad you cleared that up - lol was on noddy alert

I find it difficult to understand how people can say always sticks, one of my lakes is slate banks, others baked hard like concrete and others wooden platforms with 4-6ft of water off the end and thick reeds each side.

My pod has been a life saver

hoping this gets seen now lol

@ shade

can you get more of the middle section made?

reason i ask is i have banksticks and buzzer bars that look very alike to yours and would love the middle bit so i got best of both worlds.

at moment ive got a pod and banksticks but imo ill use banksticks WHEREVER possible.
