I liken it to making your own Bread, A novilty to start with but let someone else put in the hard work and you just part with the cash

Somebody get out of bed the wrong side? How is my post argumentative or contentious??? Obviously you don't know me or have read any of my posts. Yes i don't agree with completely free spool, this forum doesn't give you the right to say im argumentative or contentious, everyone has the right to their own opinion

Possibly, but then again if it was done in a single process i.e front drag, quick turn less than 5mm, i get it i do just seems alot more hassle than its worth, yes horses for courses, don't like the horse! Ha ha

I always took Free Spooling as a figure of speech, I've never actually free spooled as such, there's always a certain amount of tension but it's still looser than the front playing drag

Like I say, my fishing grew with bait runners, it's what I'm used too.

If you actually read it properly it states i see people with them letting fish run for the sake of it which i don't agree with, then it states i believe it leads to fish loses etc. Some people have shown me they can be used responsibly but i still don't see it, if you like using them over front drag then great. If someone who does let it run for fun reads it, it may make them think about fish and snags.

I have both . After using a free spool facility it took me ages to get used to my Big Pits .
When I used free spool the other week it felt strange too .
I prefer my big pits but yes , horses for courses I Spose and a place for everything .
I think beginners tend to get em cos they may seem easier as the fish is usually already hooked .
More experienced all round anglers maybe don't consider they need bait runners ?
Once again . Each to his own .

anyone who can not do exactly that on a bait runner/free spool reel needs to get lessons in how to set up their kit IMO of course
as to the second part of the statement, i have seen people loosing off the front drag to do the same thing, one chap loosened it so much that on the take his spool flew off. so have a good think and then tell me that there is no point in incorporating a safety feature that takes noddys out of the equation.
no offence intended of course

And "it looses you fish" and "makes you lazy."
Just saying.

Apologies, perhaps a little abrupt. No offence meant. It's just that saying there's no point in free spool reels is, to me, akin to the sleeping while fishing, discussion. Also opening with things like "there's no point" and questioning them from a fish safety POV is a tad argumentative.
Again, genuinely no offence meant.

I get it, they reinvented the wheel, so its a lever instead of a quarter turn or just so i can pull line off with some effort.

The reels people use for angling aren't all designed with carp in mind. Predators being a prime example where resistance in your setup can cause them to drop the bait.
Bait runners have been adopted by carp anglers but it's not the style of fishing they were originally designed for.

Nobody is letting anything run, it's no different than setting a front drag to do the same job as a bait runner, I just prefer a bait runner,

Hmmm. See I have baitrunners and I used to really struggle to understand the logic of bigpits where you're having to 'tighten up' manually. Now I would happily make the switch if I had the spare pennys. With my current baitrunners don't forget the drag is adjustable still, so I have mine set pretty firm most of the time. Then my regular drag is set so when the switch happens if the fish goes for it I don't have my arm pulled off it can take line. But I guess I sort of agree with you but just because of habit I think when I do switch it'll feel wierd for a while.

No leader no tubing .
Unless there's a chance of being cut off on obvious snags like mussels etc.Rig concealment is difficult enough without advertising you are there with a length of blooming great tubing

well I meant PVA on one rod and choddy on the other, but coming up with a way of combining them could be a goldmine!
