  1. A thread for my lure fishing catches, so far I have been out twice and had one Zander from the canal, might go up later this evening, see if I can find a Perch or two.
  2. Always fancied a visit to cuttle mill, it's just up the road from where i'm fishing at the mo. does anyone know if they allow dogs on site? Kingsbury is fairly quiet these days leggs007, £4 a day for some of the waters on there, you must know the place well being a local, Canal pool is going to have a real good stock of fish in a few years, the carp the put in a few years back are coming out around the 20lb size already, they put 170 very nice looking carp in to replace what was lost.
  3. It only just does the job, I'm out to the carboots today, if they aren't rained off, see if I can pick up a better unhooking mat. Last time I went I got two good bite alarms, I was um-ing and r-ing over a JRC sleeping bag for £25, some bloke swooped in and beat me to it, i'm glad he did, as I didn't want a second hand sleeping bag anyhow, It was one of their box bags, so it was tempting for that money.
  4. I got my camera from cash converters, £30 for a Fuji S2960, they usually have a good selection with prices starting at £20 going up to a few hundred quid, you can find a real good camera and they do a deposit and weekly payment on all their goods. The shop in Nuneaton has some real nice rods in the shop too.
  5. Fat looking common I had today, had to use my phone for the picture
  6. I would suggest barston as it's located in the central Midlands, but they have pole anglers on there, I seen a pole angler land a 20 odd lb common yesterday, funny, he thought it was one of the thirties whilst playing the fish, took him nearly an hour to net it, glad i don't fish like that, shipping in and shipping back out. he is one of the regular match anglers on there, I had to swap his little net over to his larger net while he played the fish, it only just fitted in the net, he was well surprised, and a good bit of pole angling on his part. Not what you would want in a match though, takes too long to land the fish.
  7. I loves me a bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd
  8. Seen this style of rig on a YT video, you need to use two crimps on the swivel end, one closed fully the another after it half closed, or the bait will trap between the fluro near the swivel.
  9. Forgot to say, if you go on a sunny calm day, take a floater rod, seems to always put a fish or two on the bank
  10. That and a few large carp that seemed to just appear from nowhere, according to gossip.
  11. I have never fished but been up for a look around, but he does not allow dogs on site so that ruled it out for me. There are said to be some huge fish in there, heard a rumour it is closed for day/night ticket sales? only allows a few regular anglers to fish it as he had problems with the EA, so closed the lake?
  12. Barston, you should have a few fish from there, the pegs are plenty big enough for two and they have toilets and a bar/restaurant on site, the food is good and fair priced, you can get a burger and chips for around a tenner, or there is a small sainburys up the road that does quick snack foods.
  13. Wow wish I had a club near me like that, there is the Leamington AA, but they have only just allowed coated hook lengths, up until a few years back it was mono only, they are keeping an eye on the coated stuff, if anglers are found to be exposing too much braid, it's going back to mono only.
  14. Not from that part of the world, but had a look online and noticed boilies are only allowed as hook bait and not as loose feed, there are plenty of good waters in that part of the country, anywhere that has silly bait bans I would avoid. there must be a lot of natural food in the specimen lake for them to not allow boilies, either that or they use pellets to feed the lake.
  15. Pine pool can really throw up just about anything, I have had some real nice Tench and Bream on previous visits, I once had two big bream out in the space of about ten minutes, wouldn't mind seeing them again as they were monsters, I didn't have a camera on me the last time I caught the bream. Soz for the double post, the site wont let me edit my previous post to add the above?
  16. I really do like to get up to Kingsbury, there was a few other anglers on the water yesterday, I seen one carp come out and another guy had a few Tench and a Pike. The Pike do seem to like the boilies up there. The carp were on the top yesterday afternoon, a few guys tried floater fishing but could not get them to feed.
  17. Had this out at about 7.30PM. had been there all day with no takes from Carp. I was just bringing my rod in to pack away and the pike grabed my boilie, thee hook was just lipped no idea how it stayed on. I have heard that the pike strike at carp anglers bait.
  18. The biggest problem with fishing canals is the boats, I have found the evenings are best, there are some nice carp in the midlands canals though
  19. Always liked the look of hunts corner myself, I normally do a three day session at least once a year, Dog lane is where I would usually go, but he has banned dogs around the pool side, but not the camp site, there was a lot of campers walking their dogs around the lake, but I wouldn't call it a problem. So linears might get a visit this year, as they allow dogs.
  20. I think the fluro my of done me wrong on Tuesday, I was surprised I didn't catch. I done so well on a fluro braid combi rig last summer I stuck with it all day. Had a similar first day out last year fishing a coated combi rig for most of the day, only last year I tied up a basic super nova rig for the last few hours and had a nice mirror out, think I’m going to tie a few up with the supper nova for next time.
  21. I used a fluorocarbon and braid combi rig for all my fishing last year, will do the same this year too, Fox armapoint ssc size 6 hook. I was using a snake bite hook length, but I prefer the fluorocarbon as it stays tidy and the braid makes for a better hair loop. I use it as I think it is one of the more difficult rigs for the carp to blow out.
  22. City had a win yesterday, first home win since October, should they stick with the caretaker manager or bring in a new guy?
  23. Elvis has left the building Coventry have sacked their manager after slipping into the relegation places, Bad call if to ask me can't see them queuing up for that job, no money and fans that boo their own team, plus the whole SISU out campaign has really split the fans. I haven’t heard of a replacement as yet and it has been a few days now since Pressley left, I can see that club winding up and being no more, there will be riots in this town on that day, locals with pitch forks and burning torches storming the Ricoh.
  24. Hia, this place might just be in your range, not fished it myself, but it seems ok going by the web site, it's a tad more than 30m from Newport, but the facilities look top notch for access. http://www.celticlakesresort.com/
