been for a walk but they look pretty good. Coate is massive, it has a diving board which looks like a carp holder. Tockenham also looks great with plenty of clear gravel patches. Its only that the website says that there are 40's in Coate and if there are then it's a done deal. But I have gone to plenty of venues with an exagerated weight. I mean every venue has a monster which was caught by an angler on their own with no camera or scales!

c'mon surely sombody fishes one of those venues!

Hi Guys, I am recently getting my new year memberships for venues in and around Swindon. I have been considering a venue called Coate Water. On the website it claims to contain 40's. Is this true? I am also considering a place called Tockenham Resevoir. Which is better? If anybody knows where else I should try, please tell me! Thank you.

probaby stick with one rod at flaxlands because there is probably no way around getting a double run other than opening the bale arm, as for my other waters, I dont think I will get a double run this time of year! cheers

flaxlands mate, I only go there when I am tired out of my mind of putting in full effort and not getting a single bite and just want to catch a bucketload of carp, but when I do go there somtimes I get minor indication on one rod whilst getting a take on the other...

if I just leave the baitrunner or bail arm open on one rod whilst playing a fish on the other surely the fish would just snag me up.

During my summer fishing (esspecialy zig fishing) my rods seem to be getting line bites together and it is probably only a matter of time until they both go off!! What do I do when this happens because I fish alone so have no mate to pick up the other rod!! thankyou

no, I dont eat pike and am asking because I thought pike would be really boney, tried mirror carp in france, tried tench in france, tried trout in england and cod but have never even seen pike on the menu!!

has anybody ever fallen for the trap of accidentaly using fox arma mesh as PVA, I took all of my mesh re-fills off of the tubes to check for damage after I dug them out of the shed and forgot about the arma mesh and just put it alongside the other strips of mesh, put them all back on the tubes and ended up somhow with the armamesh on my kord micromesh boilie strip tube. I made a bag, cast out and soon found out!! I always found that fox arma mesh attracts bream because it holds bait like corn, tuna and hemp so it is best used on bream free water...dont tell andy that I said that!!

Do you shout GET IN when you catch a carp to be fair I am somtimes worse and jump up in the air doing my victory dance!!

I generaly use mesh, I have never had a single split off with mesh.

to be honest, I only use a leader because the people in the tackle shop ie.bryan jarrett, say to use one.

How to you lot tie up your bags and mesh? I just put my bait down the tube and compress the bait the size of a golfball, then push it out and cut the mesh 1in above the bait, then I cut the tag end into two strips. Then I use a treble overhand knot to tie the bag onto the hooklink then slide it down onto the hook shank. For bags I use the korda way of putting a small layer of bait, then my lead, then two thirds of the way up, then my hookbait and then fill up the rest of the bag. I would be interested to see if there were any other ways...

sirblanksalot there is nothing wrong with a chod rig, they can be super effective but are not the magic answer in weed, weed is hard to fish through but can be fished through if you use the right tactics and rigs. Chod rigs can, however be good over shallow weed.

salokcinnodrog I would advise in weed that you use super slack line, I am not the best to be giving advise on line tention but a nice slack sinking line works as well as a leader. I use a leader to stop the line from cutting into the fish. Your line should be tentioned by a light bobbin but your tips should be under water.

sorry I failed to mention that you should use a bb shot under the hook to balance the bait to alow it to gradually sink, if you dont use a shot then you will certainly not have good presentation!!

I am going on a holiday to the lake district in august and wonder if anyone knows any good venues or fisheries where I could catch carp, pike, barbel, zander, catfish or tench.

in swindon there is an excellent venue called tockenham resevoir with the biggest carp being a 26lber also try rachem angling club near to cheny manor estate, loads of carp between 10 and 20lb. If you are into pike fishing then try a mackeral deadbait at peatmore lagoon
