I like the perfection loop but have it on good authority that the figure of eight is stronger. The tests were done with mono though and not with braid.
I use the perfection loop with a thick stiff filament, but revert to figure of eight when using mono or a light fluro.
Nige, i think most knots are up to it, i just tried a 15lb coated braid with an overhand one end, perfection the other, neither knot gives, it always breaks on the straight, i did it with a rig and the hook straightened !
if you were giving it that much force i think you'd be pulling for a break anyway

stop press, lol
I wasn't happy with em so I dismantled the lot and learnt the perfection loop
like all new knots it was very fiddly at first but is actually not hard to tie
The links seem a lot stronger now
I think the first few yards of the dodgy braid spool were a bit weak as they were exposed in a shop for a long time, but with the new knot as opposed to the simple overhand loop it is now behaving
Whatever the problem was, I now have 6 (all that I could manage before going mad, I have literally spent, including the previous evening, about 7 hours fretting over and tying rigs and I am finally happy with them
I think it is important to have confidence in what you are doing in all facets of carping and it all starts with the one thing that you can really control and that is rigs
They are unbelievably simple, but ever so beautifully tied, sneaky, and neat, just the way I like to fish.
Thanks for the advice.
Fair play for having a go, if you ever use fluro or even mono for a hooklength use that knot , you'll be amazed how much straighter it sits

If you have a faulty batch are you not going to have to retie them anyway?
I've been using the perfection loops for years, never had one slip and is actually smaller than a overhand knot, tie one and see.

Never seen a swivel with the hook on before , where can you get them from, I like to buy some
You can't buy them that i know off, that's why i said about the gap in the market.
made these myself

I use this rig a lot and really like it. Recently I have tied it using Korda IQ (i think, chod stuff with no memory) stiff part formed into a curve pretty much as a chod with the supple boom being solar contour which is very supple but also quite heavy. (Which I think helps set the hook) I mainly use it with bottom baits on a supple hair. I'm not a rig guru but I am super confident with this rig, I've not caught many on it but every pick up I've had I have landed and they have been hooked nicely in the bottom lip. I always use a pva bag with it though as I think it would tangle easily without
what lead setup do you use with this?

Pete there are some artifical baits on the market that are porous mate .
I think its avid that do artifical pop ups that certainly do the job and im sure there are others .
I dont think plastic is to be taken literally and most of these artifical baits on the market these days do take on flavours to a degree .
The ones i used certainly take on flavour, caught more fish last year on fake baits than boilies.
Always have mine glugging, put a pop up piece of maize on recently, tested it in the margin.....it sank over glugged maybe
-
And i use the korda krimps
no more fiddly knots

thats the way i have been doing it for the last couple of years
Well thanks for keeping it quiet and not sharing doug
good video nige

Hello sirblanksalot
Nice translation, I'm not sure how you guess that I can read Malay language, because I'm not from Malaysia. The pond actually is.
Anyway, I dun understand the term statement ( mendaki turun menangani akhir) is new to me.
For your rig, I will try out with smaller hook than the one I'm currently use like the one in my picture, but i have tried tying my hook with the pellet with string, the GT's saw it and still made a uturn.
I will tried embedded the hook shank deeper into the pellet, and will also try to place the hook face inward to the pellet.
tks
I put 2 & 2 together and got 5 my apologies
I'm sure between us we'll come up with a method to catch you a big GT

Joe, ever been newark way ?
There's oakhill near norton disney, holds a good head of 20's but can get very busy. (had a couple of mid 20's from there)
sapphire lakes , A1 pits ( 6 lakes to choose from)
and of course cromwell, the home of the 30's & 40's

These are the quik links i was referring too, just tried them in several brands of lead clip and the all fit snugly.
large size i believe, the sleeve on the hooklength is a chod rig sleeve, slightly bigger bore than my A-T tube so fits over the link easier. but you could use another tail rubber for the same effect.
-
Bin both swivels, like bez said, quik link in clip, then loop or rig ring on hook length, sorted.
Or use a quick change swivel , loop on the hook length and a anti tangle sleeve to cover it.

I use the same materials bought for my chod rigs, esp stiff & mouthtrap both in 15lb, i have used coated braids for the boom but prefer the mono, once it's steamed over the kettle it stays quite rigid.
Stiffer mono can but a tad fiddly to tie the hair too, as i found making some rigs recently.
To make life easier when you fold the line over at the end the hair goes on, slide a large or xl sinker on first, keeping it on both parts of the line, this will hold the loop in place whilst tying the hair on.
When the hair is tied slide the sinker up on both parts of the line and over the knot, trim tag end and voila

What adjustments would you make to the first 3 to make them effective as pop up rigs?
and why would you swap to a fluro combi when fishing on gravel?
Rig 1, Just by adding a shot to the hair could turn it into a popup rig,
random pic of the web but you get the idea,
Rig 2, i'd change the rig ring for a piece of silicone near the bend, then either the shot on the hair or below the hook eye so it sits cocked.
Rig 3, is the most versatile i feel, just floss a bait directly to the rig ring then alter the length so it sits tightish on the shank. (google claw pop up / images )
Why the combi on gravel? As ian has said it is virtually invisible and a coated braid may stand out a mile if your guessing at the colour of the bottom and get it wrong.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, thats great!
Not sure about the comment on knowing more just because I am fishing in France, I am going to a
http://roseaucarpfishery.co.uk/
which I am told is a great and easy french carp lake, I am hoping the fish practically cue up for my bait
I will try a few combi rigs and see how I go, I really want to treat my self to some new gear too, but not sure what to get, and ideas, I want a set of Delks but are they just a waste of my hard earned cash!?

I plucked four from my rig box.
1st is suffix coated braid in 20lb, simple knotless knot , looks like a size 8 wide gape but will work with most hook patterns.
2nd is the suffix again , 2 inches stripped back tied to a rig ring with a uni knot, this simply goes down through the eye of the hook and the shrinktube holds it in place, making the hair adjustable in length.
The rig ring will pull down to the eye during the fight and was strong enough to land me a mid 20.
3rd, is a blowback combi rig using 15lb fluro , and stripped suffix for the hair, size 6 widegape.
4th is a hinged stiff rig tied with 15lb mouthtrap.
Obviously the first three are bottom rigs but could be made into wafter / popup rigs with slight adjustments.
I'd use all of these on silty areas but if fishing on gravel would swap to the fluro combi.
