  1. Combirig_zps2bf4e32c.png

I have being using the Combi-rig over the last 12 months, as my water is very weedy, I can chuck this into the weed using a 1oz flat pear lead and it sits nicely ontop of the weed as I use a snowman bait and a PVA nugget aswell.

I do usually fish onto the clear spots which this rig has done the job for me, but when there are fish in and on the weed, and you need to fish on the weed, as I said, this rig has done the job and put me fish on the bank. Plus catching a few PB's on this rig also last year gave me massive confidence in it.

  2. There is a day ticket water right behind the snowdome named boroughpit or spelt something like that.

I'm told you just turn up and fish and a woman walks round and collects your tickets. Supposed to have some 20's in and a 30?

It's days only unless you join the lambs clubs.

You also have Kingsbury Water Park, plenty of lakes on that complex with big carp, 10 mins away from Tamworth.

Riddings is local I believe although never fished there that has carp over 20 I think too?

  3. I use Carp Craze stuff, pretty cheap and does what I need it too and never need to change.

I once heard a story of a company who accidently ordered the wrong material and made a batch of solid bags with them.

Anglers who used them wondered why they where not getting bites when they should of and when they wound their rods in for a mornign re cast after a quiet night they found their rigs where still nice and neatly packed into the bags :D

  4. I put a mini swivel on the D. Put the floss through it and pull through the bait. Pull the swivel into the bait and then blob the two ends with a lighter. No tieing involved.

I have being looking all over the forum for your thread with them pictures to post here.

I remember you telling me about that way Nige, and I must say its how I tie my chods now and feel very confident in the way they present the bait and the hooking capabilities.

  5. I know a few lads down there Matt.

I see the name kingcombe or something crop up around there, Wally's lake and a few others, but as I'm from the midlands I have no first hand experience.

This is no plug, but go to YouTube and look for Fishing Dorset. He has fished a fair few venues and caught from most too, have a look, you might find a venue to suit.

  6. I was praying for that box common to fall victim all the way through after seeing Adam Penning catch it in last years thinking tackle I wanted to see how fat it had gone since then.

I havnt got sky so havnt seen many think tackle programmes, but would be a stunning fish on the bank! Will have to see what underwater 8 brings!

  7. so is it free fishing there now? or is it no fishing at all. anyone know what is happening to the fish???

Fish are staying in, according to cuttle mill it will be ran exactly the same when the government get it.

The only thing in not sure about is if it's open right now, but I presume it is.

  8. Most of my fishing is solid bag work. So got a few short braided rigs ready tied in my wallet, if not fishing a bag then i'l be using a chod which are all tied up on rig winders ready to go if needed.

Each to their own, but just take a step back and re evaluate your situation, you might realise that your looking into things abit too deeply and are worrying over nothing.

  9. Im sure many anglers had both of these DVD's on their Christmas list last year, as they where both highly anticipated to make very good watching.

I have recently just finished watching both of them, and well, I was impressed by both of them...

    Seeking Shadows;

As it was Martin Bowler, I was expecting truly amazing footage after watching his series of catching the impossible, and he really didn't dissapoint.

Truly awesome underwater footage, and put across his campaign on a syndicate in the deepest darkest dorset.

Showing his sessions on his syndicate, watching him and a few others land some magnificent carp on a water most other anglers would love to get a ticket on.

And not just a Carp DVD, other species such as perch and Blue sharks, which gave the DVD variety and experience in more than one field of angling.

Just made one great DVD and a pleasure to watch, would recommend it to anybody!

    Korda Underwater 7.

Again, as it was the Korda boys, and their previous successful underwater DVD's, i had high hopes for this DVD...It didn't disappoint.

After hearing they would be heading over to fish St John's, it immediately had my attention, even though i have never fished St John's, I have a decent understanding that it can be a tricky water, but with some big fish in and alot of stunning carp too, which are heavily pressured.

It was obvious that they would have an advantage on the lake over every day anglers, by having the swim booked for a couple of weeks and being able to introduce alot of bait to get the fish feeding and get them comfortable, but lets be honest, if they hadn't of had the advantage, it could of made for a boring DVD?

I enjoyed this DVD so much more as the underwater camera was of such a high quality and you could make out everything that was happening, various angles with cameras, and it wasn't an in your face plugging of products DVD.

A fair few stunning carp where caught, was brilliant to watch the big plated slip up and get hooked and landed, and learnt alot about bait application and how little bait you put into the lake can look like alot of bait on the lake bed, and also how carp act to new features on a spot, like the camera in this instance.

All in all, I really enjoyed both DVD's, you can't compare the two directly asnd say which one is better as they where both filmed for different reasons, to show us different things and presented to us in 2 different ways.

Both where brilliant and I believe they achieved everything they wanted to, and I would recommend both DVD's to anyone.

    Ross.

  10. I have a few mates that used to fish it years ago, going off what stories they have told me, I would give it a miss.

Fish are supposed to be battered in there, no fish care shown, or was shown in the past by anglers, and apparently not the most scenic of places to fish.

Only going off stories off very good mates, and if its the fishery I'm thinking of in that area then that's what I'm told.

I've heard similar but only heresay. There was a thread/question along similar lines to this one a while back. I'm hopeless with the Search facility, perhaps someone else can find the reference.

    Ian

I havnt seen that thread, but a good mate of mine lives near and he used to fish it when he started carping, and I trust everything he says.

  12. The HS2 is the biggest con in modern history the country skint but the goverment have billions to spend on a railway track absolute joke. The only winners are the contractors who build it. Wonder how many back handers it took to make the plan go ahead. Goverment scum bags.

They charge you threw the nose to drive a 4x4 because its bad for enviroment but a high speed rail line that destroys unspoilt country side aint a problem, when there getting there billions of pounds worth of contracts up for grabs.

Cuttle Mill is only one of many being effected there fair few special lakes going to suffer.

I read somewhere in the anglers mail I think a year or 2 ago that over 40 fisheries will be destroyed.

3 around my way, although I don't fish any of the lakes that are being affected regularly, it's an absolute joke that the HS2 is being built, ruining historic fisheries, countryside etc and the government don't give a rats ass!

  13. I think its acceptable to say- "This is a rumour that Ives heard- I have no idea whether its true or not"...Or put "allegedly" at the end.

    Cmon- spill it. :wink::D

Ok, what I'm told is, because HS2 is going through fisheries, land etc, they have to offer the owners of the land etc money, now, if a property is up for sale and the hs2 runs through it, then if the property dosnt get sold, the government have to offer OVER the asking price.

So by putting cuttle mill up for sale at a high price that nobody will buy it for, the government have to pay them more than the asking price, so they make a substantial amount of money from it.

This is again what I have being told, sounds clever, but I have no idea on this field so not sure how true it is.

  14. I read that this morning too Mick, such a shame!

Pete, yes it was up for sale, and I think there was a reason why it was put on the market, and it's from hearsay why it was put on the market, so I won't say what I heard incase I'm wrong and it all turns into rumors.

  15. 2 and 1/2 inches of water??? Sticklebacks??

    Whoops Typo''''''''Foot'''

I never got on with ' and " for feet and inches either :wink:

I always get it muddled up - mm are much easier to work with. Although I do switch between the two!

Hate working in metric, luckily I very rarely use metric at work, mainly all old school :)

Working in Thou's instead of microns for me is so much easier to interpretate and imagine its actual size in my head.
