I normally take a few more than that and a BBQ, I take my fishing very seriously and believe me snag, if anyone is noisy i will be the first to tell em. Is the canal near you busy then cause the stretch in hopwas would be pretty quit? Can you imagine all of us going at once! the people around there wouldn't know what hit em!!!!!!!!!!

I live near Tamworth and often take my German Shepherd for a walk over to Hopwas. The Coventry canal runs through there and i was wondering if anybody has fished the Cov canal for carp around that area. As i walk the dog there are so many carp holding places but im not sure if there are any carpio's in the canal, Can anybody help?

I must admit that i always use shrink tubing, only because you can get what ever angle you require by bending it.

Im certainly no expert in feeder fishing, Your not allowed to use method feeders but you can also have the same effect ( ie your bait is close to the feeder ) by tying some pva through one of the holes in your swimfeeder to the curve of your hook, this will only work though if your feeder mix is not to wet, if you need a wet mix try using flavored oil boosters rather than water to mix your feeder mix up with. Like i said im no expert but i have caught fish on this, not many but i have caught.

Has anybody used crimping alot now? if so any good advice on what brands to use and what tool is the best? Thinking of starting to use them (only about a year behind everybody else) any advice would be appreciated,

noknot i forgive you!!!!!! I just feel more confident with a light back lead on as you dont tend to get line curls. Just my own personal choice, but like i said i am nothing more than an average angler!!!

Well i wouldnt say really heavily especially for carp anyway as the max at anyone time is 9 ppl on there and they mainly fish for the cattys. Why do you think that i should not use the chody rig being im new? Also anyone got any advice on the weight size? why i was asking is that the lake seems small to hold quality fish like that in and if they are fished for heavily then the choddy is not going to work as it looks unnatural, If it was me and it was my first trip to this lake then i would go with a in-line setup with a pop up, camo everything up, use light bobbins and slack line with back leads. Just the way i would fish it, people might have a different opinion buddy Good luck, Good points, However it has been stated that its a weedy water so what is the advantage of a backlead,as this could cause more problems? A weed rake would be the way to go for me, and bait up the clear area for a few days then fish it. I thought that he said that it was a silty bottom so backleads would be fine, great point about the weed rake, if that is the case i would do that when there is no-one else around.

To be honest i have never used pva nuggets apart from on the hook, you never know buddy you could revolutionize carp fishing by having a totally tangle free zig-rig. Give it a go, thats how we make progress in carp fishing, people trying new ways. Go for it buddy

Hi Welshcarp, I know its a small lake but is it heavily fished?

Another good way to reduce tangle's with the Zigrig is always follow the rig with your rod when your casting and just as it is about to hit the water put your finger on the line on the reel to stop it, what it does is where the lead is heavier the rig always trails behind so when you put your finger on the spool to stop it it flips the rig past the weight and straightens it out and away from your rig. You can also use a stiff link material of about 12-15 inches just off the lead, this can act as a boom to keep your rig away from the weight,

Hi Wattsy, I have had a fair bit of success fishing snags and margins with my rods pointing straight at the bait with a really light back lead on ( just enough to sink the line to the bottom ) with a really light bobbin and the baitrunner on my reels set to have alot of resistance on the take, stay close to your rods though and if you have a sensitivity button on your alarm then make it as sensitive as possible as this would give you an indication that there is something sniffing around your bait, hope this helps.

Hi All, Im new to this forum so a big hello from me, My name is Barry and i moved up to Woodend near Tamworth in Staffordshire about 6 years ago from Weymouth in Dorset. I have been fishing since i was 8 years old. I would class myself as an average Carp Angler with my biggest being 33 1/2lb common and then my next biggest is 15 1/2lb so i have never caught a 20lb Carp. I was wondering if any of you know a nice lake around this area that i can pick my wits against,I have found some stupid rulings on some lakes ie you can only fish 1 rod for the 1st year etc etc. If anybody can help i would really appreciate it, Thanks all,
