  1. Exactly......you can only try. That attitude alone deserves a fish or two!
  2. Very fair comments and succintly put. I think theres quite a bit of sour grapes about all this, like you suggest. I reckon most new places need bedding in, so twelve months from now it'll probably be a different story altogether. The very fact that people were blanking certainly would'nt put me off giving it a go.
  3. Yeah, know what you're saying. I doubt whether I'd use it as backup tbh, as theres loads of waters about that are a lot better. Its about time the emphasis was put back on the fishing.
  4. Did the night there once and it seemed totally surreal!
  5. Lakesides problem is too many anglers for too little water. The last time I went for a look around there was a good dozen or so bivvies and all you could hear were spods hitting the water every couple of minutes.
  6. It looks slightly fffffffffffrrrrooozzen at the moment
  7. The top entrance is probably the nearest, I'd say. Whatever, the lake is pretty remote and you need to take what you need for a session. It helps if you've got a mate who does'nt mind dropping you down some supplies. The 'toilet' facilities leave a lot to the imagination but theres no shortage of big leaves Carp wise, beza26 is pretty much on the button, though its never been an easy water and the top end don't seem to come out much. Saying that, it has been known to attract the odd speccy hunter from out of town, so has it a surprise or two? You never know!
  8. Hi, chris. Its a public park water. Its marked on OS maps of Sutton Coldfield and is right smack in a nice secluded part of the park, which is closed after dark. There can be a few people on there, spread out, or you can literally be on your own for days on end. I suppose you might get the odd passer-by give you ear-ache, but there are plenty of spots to tuck the bivvy away. Just beware the dreaded dog-walkers!!!!.......lots of them! Its supposed to be day ticket, but tbh its sometimes a case of if and when a 'parkie' comes round. A lot of people do do nights on there, so I don't think they stop you (as long as you keep it low-key). A mate of mine did twenty or so straight nights on there and never got asked for a penny, though he did say it can get a bit spooky at dead of night Not a big stock, but a few decent fish to be had (I won't guess sizes because it all depends who you listen to). The best spots are towards the wilderness end, away from the dam end. Hope that helps.
  9. Gunnabarn that is. Mid Cornwall fisheries. I know where, how much, what you can and can't do etc etc. Would like to know more about the syndicate.....is there a humongous waiting list? Is it a case of 'if your face fits'? Ideal location for me really and in the long run a syndicate has got to be the way to go. I'm a fairly keep to myself, inconspicuous sort of angler, but I really can't be bothered with all that 'nudge nudge wink wink' nonsense. Anyone?
  10. Very nice lake, but at times can be quite busy. Each time I've been there it was wall-to-wall bivvies, which kind of put me off. If you like peace and solitude its worth checking out with the bailliff when its the best time to go.
  11. Stafford Moor? Not sure if they're actually lakeside, but the accomodation is luxury canadian log cabins. Four or five lakes to go at with a mix of fishing.
  12. Be interesting to see how you get on at the Riddings. I've fished it a few times, without much success admittedly, but its a nice place and you get a wicked breakfast! Theres some nice fish in there and I've always felt nearly there. On a sunny day they like to cruise about and I've seen a couple of jaw-droppers mooching about the swim.
  13. Bakes ok, if you like crowds. There is one or two decent sized fish in there but also a lot of pasties to get through. Agree though, you can have a days sport there. Bush could be really good in the right hands. I've had a couple of really nice high-doubles out of there and theres rumours of a biggie (and about where it originated from) . The last time I went I got invaded by the young bull and had to rescue my gear before it got trod on. It used to be owned by a mad German woman and her disabled old man, who used to watch you through binoculars from the farmhouse.
  14. Gwinear. Porth Reservoir. Oakside. Retallack. Plenty more but, with the exception of Porth, these are the ones I've had decent days fishing at. Personally, I like Gwinear but have'nt fished the place for a couple of years.
  15. Very interesting thread. They do say 'keep it simple' and sometimes they can make things extremely difficult to follow. The magazines can put as many diagrams as they like in, but its not always that easy. Besides, how many people follow them to the letter? More to the point, how many rigs are out there that have had the 'that'll have to do' treatment? Lets face it, we've all seen some horror rigs in our time! I know I have! I always (underlined) use a standard approach. It works! As long as the hooks sharp, thats all I'm concerned about.
  16. I think I would seriously consider investing in a dinghy. Sounds a really interesting prospect to fish, but I would definitely have to investigate the 'inaccessible' areas. We did a similar thing at a old claypit down here and discovered loads of potential secret swims that would have taken only a couple of days to cut out. Bait wise. I agree with fruit-bat. You need something that is substantial, inexpensive and a proven carp attractor. You may need to put a lot of it in to get them switched on to it and boilies and pellet don't come cheap.
  17. You used to be able to do nights on there, but that may have changed I'm not sure. Never had any hassle there, but you do occasionally get people mooching round in the wee hours so does to be alert. They'll have anything off the top usually, though I like to use a beachcaster and dog biscuits (flavoured or plain) have always done the biz. If you can get them interested you'll have a result. I've had a dozen off the top in a couple of mad hours before now. Nothing of any size but still sport.
  18. Glad to help. Used to fish there fairly often when we lived in the mids. Bro-in-law gets down there every other week or so. The coloured lakes definitely the one to get on. Its not a big pond, but theres plenty of fish to give your line a tug or two. Any pegs a good one but try the far end, to the obvious features, but watch out for a sunken tree! It does get busy at the weekend, so nail your spot early on. Baitwise they'll have anything and you don't really need to go large. I used to fish singles over a bag of crumb and a few pellets. I used to fish NRG there and regularly hammered it, but the Source does pretty good too. In fact, any decent boilie will score. If its a warm one they WILL have it off the surface, so take a controller just in case. Size wise the twentys are thin on the ground, but I've had them up to 18lb usually, although have heard of one or two bigger fish being landed to be fair. Good sport though. Hope thats of some help?
  19. Riddings (peg 10) is well worth a go.
  20. 50p! What a bargain! I found a early edition of CF some time ago in a proper book repository and it was up for double figures. I dithered about it and when I decided to buy it some guy from Lithuania online nipped in and paid about £20 for it. Gutted or what? I really wanted to read it though as it was more like grass roots. I get a bit fed up these days of the old intelligence being dealt another low blow with yet another 'expert' opinion
  21. Can get very busy.....bivvy city! Beautiful looking lake though.
