Ah that was my question is it better to use braid or monofilament? or is it personal preference? well there are positives and negatives to both of them from what i remember they are : braid: moves around more naturally and will go into the fishes mouth easier, but is more prone to tangling mono: less prone to tangling but moves around inthe water less natural and i think is slightly harder for the fish to pick up unless it some in at the right angle i may not be 100% right with those points but i think the stuff ive said about the braid is correct
  2. Just out of interest as i'd never heard of it until now, how would you know if weils disease was prevalent? I just googled it and it doesn't sound pleasant! You don't! Also bear in mind that Weils disease can be spread by Rats, Squirrels, Foxes, Badgers and some other mammals as well. Obviously if Rats are present and a problem you are not going to be licking your line. ohps, at the weir i fish all the time i always lick the knots and keep the boilie stops in my mouth so i dont loose them while im re baiting and there are hundreds of rats there (literally)
  3. i think rats are the main carrier of the disease, the river by me i know you have to be careful as it is present there
  4. the main knots i use for the hooklinks is a simple overhand knot for the loop to attatch to the quick link and the knotless on the hook
  5. i would suggest a running rig TBH because if you are using a bolt rig the fish knows it has been hooked and will bolt straight for snags wereas if you had a running rig then you will have more indication before the fish realises it has been caught then strike and bring it away from the snags
  6. yea will most definatly work pretty effective with braid, although isnt the hybrid hooklink supposed to have the same effect as this, ive never used it personally but im shure it is :S
  7. wheresabouts is this clumber park you speak of if i may ask
  8. he lies? in what way though bigger or smaller?
  9. lol for some reason i dont understand this could you write it out in a diffrent way?
  10. I know more than you reckon! what? you where that guy? :s :S im confused
  11. there isnt too many rules, just the general no boilies or tigernuts, unhooking mats to be used for bigger fish, barbless only etc etc although there are a few randoms like no bolt rigs so you should check em out before fishing lol me and a mate were going to do a night there this weekend but then we remembered that there was a music festival there all weekend so we are going to do it in about 2 weeks, hopefully it will be more productive than last time for my m8, he had one 3lb carp the shape of a cornish pasty last time we went we spoke to this guy who had been fishing there every night during the weekday for 4 weeks at the time ( he had work near there and lived far away so just night fished to save driving back home lol ) and he said that he was getting quite a lot of 20's, but they all seemed to be around the 22 mark but we didnt get any bites through the night, probably because of the thunderstorm
  12. the trout lake is only open to course fishing for a certain time of the year and is said to have 30's in it but i have never properly carp fished that lake had some big roach out of there on maggots though
  13. Proprietors. D.J.and D.M.Vigus WESTMILL FARM WARE HERTS SG12 0ES LakesTele. 01920 484913 From what I can gather I have heard that the Carp are pushing up to 30lbs and there are plenty of other fish species as well Before anyone asks, I've never fished it. this is the lake i didnt my first ever 24 hour session (check carp pictures for what i caught ) there are 3 lakes one trout lake which has the 30's which you are referring to and is only open for course fishing for a certain part of the year (i think when fishing season starts) although i have not fished that one, millenium lake is mainly for course fishing and has mainly small fish in it but with plenty of tench of around 4-5lb some bigger and a few bream, this lake is quite big aswell and has the odd carp in it, and westmill lake which is the lake i night fished is stocked with plenty of carp, and all the biggest ones seem to be around the 22lb mark and there are plenty of double figure carp in there and this lake was also stocked with 300 small carp in march that are very random shapes (check out the carp pics again ), and boilies are banned unfortunately but i have found sweetcorn to be most effective (although i have tried little else) and nick, your mate know many other good carp waters near to rib valley (them lakes are only down the road to me), i know of banjo lake and a few in waltham abbey but thats pretty much it
  14. i think he means because shots are made for lighter lines and is asking wether split shots on a larger diameter line will damage it, and to answer this question i have never had a problem with the line being weakend when putting split shots on it
