  1. I have just moved to the Farnham(ish) area and although I am only here for 9 months would be up for getting a fishing buddy for the duration. Did see some info on, what I think is the Farnham Syndicate in the window of a sports shop in Liphook(if you know the place) Post on here or PM me if you find any info though mate. Edited for mong spelling.
  2. Hmmmm Dont really know Paderborn but I will have a chat with a few lads I know tomorrow and get back to you.
  3. Hi Matthewa3, Being stuck in germany myself I have struggled initially in Germany to find good lakes. Best advice I can offer is fire up google earth and do a recce of your area. Another top tip is to pop in too your local tackle shop and (depending on how good your german is) ask about local waters. A lot of tackle shops will have a club that you will be able to join, depending on numbers, which will allow you to fish all the local waters at minimum cost. Dont forget you licence though as the penalties over here a rather steep. 2000 euro fine as well as the chance of having your kit retained by the Policie. Any more questions dont hesitate to ask. Regards Matt
  4. A quick one on licences, as far as I am aware you require a german fishing licence, obtained from the Town hall, cost is 23 euro. Depending on your status in Germany you may have to sit an exam before qualifying, unless you are HM Forces then you will be exempt.
  5. Hi dogwalker, Tell me where abouts in Germany you live and I might be able to help you. I know of some good lakes in Hohne, Hanover, Osnabruck and Gutersloh. I take it you have a German fishing license, if not watch out as it can mean a 2000 euro fine and your car and kit taken off you.
  6. Can I just bump this thread and I ask for the above details as me and a few mates are looking for a quick break in September.
  7. I have been using Trigga for about 2 months now and can honestly say that I am impressed with it. Have had none of the BEEP BEEP youve been done moments that I have on my usual rigs. I use it as a combi link in conjunction with a bit of stifflink. The Trigga is 12-18" long (to allow for stretch) with a 3" piece of stifflink tied into a D-rig. A lot more fancy than I usually go for but after a 10 hour session with both rods fished tight to some reeds the Trigga was the only one to produce on the day. Every run that I had was on trigga where as my normal braided hooklinks didnt get a sniff. Rods where both fished within a foot of each other with Tungsten tubing, flying backleads on slack lines with two 15mm mainline strawberry zests on the hair. Fed little and often through the day, firing a mixture of swim stim and boillie out. Tried swapping location of the rods over to see if that made a difference and still nothing on the usual rigs. Tried longer/ shorter hooklinks and hairs, as well as bolt and heli. Altered lead weight and hooksize all to no effect. Dont get me wrong I have caught on the most basic rig that you can tie but on slow days or harder waters where the fish are rig wary I feel that it has given me an edge. My opinion and more than open to debate. Tight Lines Matt
  8. I had thought of that one but not to sure if the denseness of the "weed forest" will just keep the hooklink a foot off the bottom out of the carps reach. Also a little concerned that I will have loads of line getting tangled up in the "tree tops" (see dodgy picture above)
  9. Hi all, Just a quick question for you all. Been fishing a new lake over here in Germany (just outside Hanover). The lake itself is about 14 acres in size and after spending quite a few hours over the winter/spring plumbing the depth, watching for sign, feature finding and speaking to other anglers/baliff etc I had to spend 2 glorious fun packed months in Poland(insert sarcasm). Now I have been back for a couple of weeks I have had a recce round the lake last week and the spots that I have seen carp now have about a foot of weed growing all over it. So yesterday went for a 24 hour session. Got there about 3 in the PM and got the marker rod out and tried to find some clear patches....no such luck. So I went for a wander round the lake to see if I could see any sign else where. The only other place that I could see sign of carp is right up the other end of the lake where there is .......you guessed it, weed growiwng a foot high. Talked to a few of the locals, using my awsome grip of the German language, ( waves arms about and shouts Karpfen ) and the general consensus is that there are plenty of carp in the lake but they only like the areas at either end of the lake where all the weed is. Now I know what you are thinking, well they must be swimming from one end to the other just cast to the far bank where the reeds are and you will be bagging up in no time. Unfortunately the far bank is out of bounds and I cant cast 250 yrds Tried fishing as close to the edge of the weed as I could but no joy. Not saying that is why I blanked (although I did bag about 15 trout )but would like the option of fishing the weed if need be. I"ve searched the forum and most topics talk about blanket weed and the use of either a zig rig/ PVA nuggets on hook or pop-ups. Thing with these methods is that the weed is tall and not overly dense at the base of the stalks, IMO the carp will be getting amongst the weed not feeding off the top of it. I believe that the carp are still feeding down on the bottom and would like to know if any-one has any ideas on a good safe method of fishing for carp in this thick "forest" of weed. I have no experience of this tyoe of weed so any thougths/ ideas to get me started would be brilliant. Thinking out loud I was thinking about using a float with a ledger on the bottom like so. Thanks guys/girls for the replies in advance and excuse my terrible picture Matt P.S. coming back to the U.K. on Thursday so looking forward to fishing Wheeley, St Oysth way at the weekend. Can anyone recommend a decent tackle shop in the Colchester area (dont mind a bit of a drive but no more than 30 minutes as Sister driving and not an angler ) where I can get some decent boilies/particles etc instead of the crap ones I would have to get here. I have been using imitation sweetcorn, bloodworm and pellets over beds of particles. The flavours you get here are weird to say the least. My personal favourite has got to be Vodka and Whisky that smells like...well the only description I can come up with is wet dog.[/img]
  10. Yes I agree I was typing out loud I think there
  11. So basically the idea is that, if you feel like you have to use a shockleader , you want to make sure that the swivel/clip will pass over the knot and to use a hooklink that is weaker than the leader. So if I use a 12Lb main line, 35 Lb shockleader and 10Lb hooklink then worst case the hooklink will go first. Dont like the idea of attaching the "weak link" because of the need to put the PVA and hook so near to the lead. I tend to double bag the PVA so that I can give the line a little tug to ensure the hooklink is as far away and straight as possible with no slack. Thats what I think but having only been carp fishing for a year ( sea and maggot drowning for 20) I would appreciate any more feedback.
  12. Is it worth attaching a short length of my 12Lb mainline after the shockleader and before my hooklink, to create a natural weakpoint in case the line does snap, preventing the fish from carrying 20ft of shockleader around in its mouth ? Or does this negate the whole purpouse of the shockleadern ?
  13. I agree with you, I have had a play today and although I can get my clip to slide over the knot there is still that chance of the mainline snapping. How do people get over this with something as strong as leadcore? I want to use the shockleader because of the extra weight but dont want to use braid as have heard it can damage your top ring.I am using a 12Lb mainline at the moment and the knot doesnt seem to bad. I have put on about 5m of 35lb mono on so I think I will get myself over to sports pitch and have a few casts to see how the knot passes through the rings. I am very dubious about banging the line on and going straight to the lake as the carps welfare comes before all else in my eyes.
  14. Yes I was talking about a lead clip. Maybe I will go over to using a snap link with a rubber bead, unless anyone else has any better ideas. Also has anyone tried rig putty on the leader itself, just to give it that extra bit of weight, to help pinning it to the bottom. I have some flying backleads but have yet to use them as well. I cant wait till the lake thaws out and I can get some lines in the water again. I dont mind the cold but -15 is not my idea of fishing weather.
  15. I am using 12Lb mainline but because of distance and weight I feel a shockleader may be of use. Apologies if I didnt make that clear.
