  1. been looking to going back to wearing old-skool clobber, picked this Belgium woolen army jumper up at a charity shop, they wanted a fiver, i bargained 'em down to a whooping 3 quid!!!😂
  2. @^^ back in 82' i remember reading KM's book or article and him saying, never be jealous of someones results, as you can do just as well if you put the effort in. so true, imo, back in the day it was no where near as bad with the green giant aspect ...compared to today...with instant so called carp anglers, never having read the above memo!
  3. just when ya thought the thread would fade away...i come along with my 2 pennies worth!👀 i still calculate distances in yards, and for years just used spool clip & turn of reel to calculate distance,(then tie line to branch and walk back) then a lot of anglers said to get some distance sticks, so mush easier... so last year bought ngt 10 quid cheapos delivered, well i hate 'em! never any room in the swim, and blooming line twist, gone back to my old skool way!
  4. I'm voting Monster Raving Loony Party. They have said they'll close 10 Downing Street and open it as a hairdressers called "Government Cuts". OK...
  5. agree 100%! i'll tell ya my experience with the s2, a couple of years ago i was really struggling, and came across s2's and the info on that forum, got suckered into the hype and buying 2 pots, the reason i say this is cos i should of known better as i've been a home roller for over 30 yrs! i continued to struggle, it was just a period we all go through (blanking) at 1 time or another, AND it wasn't until another old-skool angler told me ya gotta just go through it, (blanking) ...anyway i was in Morrisons doing some evening shopping and they had "Bacon Grill" on special offer, i thought this was a devastating bait back in the day, what have i got to lose lol next trip 1 rod with "Bacon Grill" AND early morning the rod screamed off, lovey mid-twenty in the net! went back to my home-made caught a few up until winter (stopped using s2's & haven't used 'em since, as i have 100% confidence in my home-made) - posted similar to this and got banned at that forum! i agree for some it works and gives them confidence, great! but why can't you have a balanced discussion?
  6. ahh.... i thought it was because he has secret invisible carp gills behind his ears
  7. @^^ many thanks for the BAF pop-up mix tip, i'll order some soon..
  8. readymade pop up mix i used in the passed was rubbish, so made my own but a bit pricey. which one do you use? thx.
  9. yep, forgot to mention that, a bit of semo added to the mix will sort it out! just make small test batches to find out....
  10. @^^ never heard of this company, thx for the link,!
  11. what about this on fleabay? 500g Dried Insect mix - £15 free delivery. (shop around you may get it cheaper) just grind it up! This mix is made up from the following; Dried Mealworms Dried Silkworm Pupae Dried Crickets Dried Calci Worms
  12. I did a work party on our club water, and i must say found a few good swims that this bait pole would come in to its own...so want to get cracking and make one! Greekskii & cyborx good points on using larger diameter conduit would be great for the last few sections (bank side) the only issue is screw connectors? because of different diameter/thread? I'll be off on me bike at the weekend down to wicks & screw fix to see want i can get... BTW, B.C. Any updates? CHEERS!
  13. wow...works out a tenner for a 20 meter pole BARGAIN, just wondering if this thicker stuff is going to be a problem with extra weight?
  14. B.C. - excellent work, I really appreciate what you've done here, especially the photo's... I'm definitely going to make one, at the moment keeping an eye on ya progress - the good tips, & any pitfalls are welcome before i start, looking forward to the next instalment...cheers mate!
  15. B.C - looking forward to your pics, i saw the 99p black electricians conduit https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Round-Conduit---Black-20mm-x-2m/p/109639 and as i want to build a 20 meter baiting-pole, just wondering @ 10 sections 20mm diameter is it going to be a bit bulky carrying-around-wise all together? cos i expect will have to keep the sections in another rod-bag? yea i have that corus 150 quid baiting-pole on my fleabay watch list, don't really want to spend that kind of money, i mean ya looking at a guy here who made his OWN bivvy years ago ha ha! though i think a home-made baiting-pole would be a lot stronger, i've seen the corus baiting-pole in use on YT { youtube.com/watch?v=MLJeduY7SqU } AND i think it looks a bit flimsy/weak? but i do like that its tidy all the poles in one section tube. @spr1985 - what are your thoughts on this corus baiting-pole, the carbon pole sections look very thin wall section? have you used it much? worth the money? CHEERS!
  16. Hey B.C. Did ya ever make one of these, any pics?
  17. Thanks for the welcome chillfactor, been real busy so no time to reply... Anyway in regards with the house move i think its going to be a slow process, which i don't mind as long as I'm moved in by the spring! Yep will defiantly give Horseshoe a bash!
  18. Nick, yeah i just checked there site and: You can get a 3-rod winter ticket which lasts from 1st October until the 31st of March for only £60! That's a whopping 6 months of fishing for only £10 a month! That's a great deal, however i don't know how long its going to take to exchange contracts on the house that I've bought - could be a month or even a few months hoping it goes through quick. Nige, EXCELLENT post! Sounds like the pit i fished when i started in 79, though that was only 45 acres! Whitefriers is double and watching this vid i like the look of it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGmG0bAFrEc Does Whitefriers have a sailing club/activities on it? Weedy - crayfish present? Cheers guys, I'm very appreciative of the input! Hello chillfactor, Must say I can't wait to move to the Cotswolds, this part of the UK is just so beautiful its unreal, especially for someone like me who's used to an urban town!
  19. MY FAV: 1980's Richworth vhs Video Guide to Good Fishing! Featuring Clive Diedrich and Malcolm Winkworth the titles are: -The Basics on Boiled Baits, -Tackle and methods -Terminal Tackle -The end result I even had the original Richworth vhs videos burned to dvds, i watch them around xmas time ...oh boy do these bring back HAPPY memories! Oh I wonder how many old skool carpers here would love to see that footage again!
  20. Thanks for the replies and welcome guys! @salokcinnodrog Thanks, checked Horcott Lakes, looks OK, 24 Hour Ticket 2 Rod £15 - this would be OK until i found a club water. @Big Common & ianain Yep hopefully a forum member from the Cotswold's will be along soon...to give me some much needed pointers.
  21. Hi Guys, Just joined, been carping since 79 AND i must say i really miss the good ol' 80's days... Been making me own bait all the way through the years so quite knowledgeable on this aspect, so can offer my help if need be. Reason for joining is I'm moving to Stroud and would like to ask members whats the carping like around Cotswolds? I'm in me 50's fish 1 day & night every other week, looking for a quite club water. Looking on google maps i see cotswold water park, as these lakes are well known - I'm i likely to find somewhere quite maybe even untapped, well i think that's probably impossible today with the way carping has gone.... I'm not asking for any specific club/water info, just if you live in the area would you say if i do my homework on the ground looking around I'll find something??? Thanks for any info, much appreciated.
