I see your point, i worry about that too. The only way it would slide down is if a fish was hooked and the bobbin pulled tight. I just re cast if i have doubts. As for bottom bait i use this

Nothing complicated really, coated braid, micro swivel, size 6 chod, bb shot, putty away you go. Pretty much only rig i use

No need for shrink tube bud. I tie my hook look so it just goes over the bend of the hook. Fish em quite short. Also i use a bb shot with a little putty. Neatens it up

It's not all bad, it's knowing what is good I also have a pair of their Field Boots, exactly the same as the Jack Pyke boots, but at £60 compared to £160. As said the Mag runner alarms are brilliant. Guess what manufacturer I had most alarms back as faulty when I was in the tackle shop.... Fox! Delkim went through a phase of faulty alarms, yet I have not had any problems with mine, purchased in 2000'ish.

now that's not a bad idea , I'm sure that I have my old man's fly rod knocking around somewhere. I had one of those nights last night where I couldn't sleep and one of the strange thoughts that popped into my head was fishing these from a controller float , letting it sink down a foot or two . dave

I the only shimano rod i have owned was a hyperloop 13ft match 1 1/2 lb test was a great rod and playing carp upto 10lb on it was great fun ... i snapped the top section playing a 20lb+ on it not what it was intended for i dnt think . I replaced it with a john wilson masterline 13ft match not as good as the hyperloop and its getting abit battered now so i may be looking at a new match rod later this season.
